Jam #55 - SuperBug - Ruler of the World!

#1 Post by Incognito »

It's time for another great Jam!

This Jam was inspired by Muffinman's "take me to your leader" thread. His super cool
bug is the talk of insect town. If you haven't seen it, check out this link

http://www.theclubhouse1.net/forums/vie ... hp?t=43018.

For this Jam, use your imagination to come up with a bug/insect that could rule the world!
It doesn't have to be big or evil, although those will certainly work, it just has to have an
ATTITUDE!

This link will lead you to all sorts of insects.

http://www.insects.org/

Here are a few insects... some real and some not... use them as a springboard for ideas.
This can turn into a really cool Jam so let's see what everybody comes up with!

This Jam will run until Sunday, 1 June. On your mark, get set, JAM!

Now I have to think of how to make some kind of "hot babe" out of this topic. You're making this difficult! Insects and hot babes aren't exactly peanutbutter and chocolate. I'll think of something, time to put the idea machine in motion.

Ahhh, I just had a brainstorm while typing. I'm a huge fan of Stargate Atlantis, and if you've never seen the show, the main enemies are an evil race named the Wraith. The Wraith are...megalomaniacs bent on being the main power of the galaxy they inhabit, and controlling their food supply, which is the Human inhabitants of their galaxy.

Now, you may say, I've got the "Rule the World" part down, but where do insects fit in to all this? The clincher is, that the Wraith are humanoids which were evolved from a large spider/beetle like insect named the Iratus bug. The insect would feed on humans or other prey and gain regenerative powers, which passed on to the Wraith.

The Wraith live in "Hive" ships and are commanded by a "Queen" paying homage to their insectoid heritage. This leads me into thinking that I will sculpt something for this Jam that I've been wanting to do for a long time anyways, a Wraith Hive Queen!!! Stoked.

Many times I've thought of sculpting this while watching the show, I'm definately going for it for this Jam.

Hah, I wish! As far as I'm concerned, the Stargate story, and it's offshoot, the Atlantis series were penned by the hand of God, as it's arguably the greatest story ever told. And there is some truth about the necktie, if you ever did see me wearing one, there would probably be alot of blood, because I would have to be dead first!

You should enter something in this Jam, you couldn't have possibly had enough of sculpting insects yet!

My Dear Patty,

It would seem by your picture you have mistaken some Arachnids as Insects. Shame on you for confusing us readers so.

OOOOOH..... somewhere between my last post teasing Patty.. Sean's post and an old idea I had I wanted to do.. I was inspired. I MAY actually get in on this one and well considering I'm thinking of calling in to work tomorrow anyways (shhhh......) maybe I can actually get close to having a finished one if not actually have a finished one. Almost thinking this idea could be an ebay post too. Hmmmm. Really wanting to call in tomorrow now lol.

Maybe Patty could change the topics to "Arthropods that rules the world" This way you can include insects, arachnids, and crustaceans (yes, even crabs!). Kinda reminded me of my graduate paper about mosquito behavior. Ahh those long gone lab days...

Sean>Making a babe out of this topic is not really difficult. If you played FFX and know the Magus sisters...BAM! I've already have two project in mind. And yes, one includes boobies ;)
Time to bust my wax on!

This is looking to be a great Jam, so much people already jumping in.
Good luck on your sculpts everyone!

Just be sure that you don't bust your wax off, Daniel-san!

Sean, I hate to admit it, but the Hive Queen is hawt in a freakishly absurd sort of way. Don't forget the Replicators take on a bug-like appearance, too!

You know, I knew someone was going to ding me on that. That's why I put BUGS/insects
instead of just insects. :D :D :D Spiders do count as bugs, don't they? ;) :::take off work...
take off work... take off work...::: (my subliminal message :D )

Forcia, thanks, it crawled into my mind at the last second. Okay, that was bad... ;)

Sean, that sounds cool.. you outta throw some Iratus bugs on her for effect... or a
mound of them at her feet with a trail of them going up her dress...or leg if she doesn't
have a dress on. Oh, and Kudos to you for getting the first idea in!

Muffinman, thanks for popping in! And thanks for such an inspiring sculpt! I can't
wait to see what you come up with for the Jam. :D

Hey Rink, No, you CAN NOT make a bug about to be squashed by a giant human foot! ;)

Midz, Crustaceans... that would have been SO cool! In fact, you almost made me change
the Jam to include them but I think maybe that'll be a future Jam. Thanks for the
idea! :D Looking forward to your ideas... both of them...

Dennis, Now this is a Jam you can participate in! Just grab one of those armatures, throw
some antennae on it, and call it a bug! :D ;)

Now onto my entry... I got my FUSE in the mail yesterday and I'm really pumped to try it!!!
Oh, and hubby's playing golf all day Saturday so I get to do whatever I want! I can't wait
to get started, this is really going to be a lot of fun!

Take care,

Patty

Actually Patty, the sculpt I started on for the Cereal Box Jam was a bug.

Buzz Bee from Honey Nut Cheerios to be exact. HA-HA!

I would be her minion. For life.

Watched a couple episodes of Atlantis last night trying to get the right shot for inspiration, found a good pose. Got the armature out of the way now packing clay onto the armature. Sculpey this time, I've got a few pounds of it lying around. Wish it was wax already.

hello jam clan!

i started fooling around with aluminium foil, my own little version of fuse wax (with a little 'earth' added for extra rigidness) and wooden beads and suddenly there emerged this thing
of which i'm not quite sure what to think yet or where it's going. but it already has kind of a life of its own, so i will see what i'll get here.
it's three inches now but i think it'll evolve into something taller...

i keep making the same mistake when starting a sculpt. instead of sculpting the left and right side simultaneously i usually work out the left side to a somewhat 'midway through' stage
and am then stuck trying to catch up with the right side. ach, bollocks...

pics are about a half to one+a half hours in:

Rink, Hmm... that could be twisted around to a huge bug gassing Earth! Like you said, gas
would be hard... maybe just implying it would work. So, are ya in?

Dennis, I'm sorry, I'm afraid the Buzz Bee from Honey Nut Cheerios is WAY too cute to
be a ruler of the world!

Sean, so you're back to SS for this, huh? I was sure we'd see some wax out of you this
time around. Looking forward to it.

Muffinman! So quick! He's already got an attitude. I think it's those eyes. You win
the First In prize!

Katherine, come on... you know you want to... just a teeny, tiny, little old bug... that can SQUASH the world!

Okay, here's my first play session with wax. I'm using Gary's FUSE wax and the only heating
tool I had in my house was a heat gun so I used that to warm the wax. I'll need to work up a
few warmers like the examples that have been shown on this board.

This guy... no name yet... is about 3.5" tall. No armature, just wax. He'll be standing when he's
done, this is really rough at this point. I have to say, it's loads of fun working with the wax!

Do you have a candle warmer in your house by chance Patty?? That's what I use with my wax. I either keep a small plate or small bowl of some sorts on it with the wax on/in it. Takes a little while to warm up but will eventually actually melt the wax.

Wow, Patty that's coming along pretty quickly. It's already showing that arrogant stance.

MuffinMan - It's great to see the originator of the idea participate in the Jams! It's cool to see your process from the get go. I have to say those round eyes looks so perfectly circular.

I can't wait to see more from these two.

Muffinman, looks cool already, can't wait to see how all the details come to life!

Patty, looks like you you're having fun with Fuse, looking good so far!

I'm working in sculpting mine in Sculpey now since I'd like to be able to paint this piece so need something I can paint on as a finished product until I get the mats necessary to start making molds from my wax sculpts. I *definitely* would be working solely in wax though otherwise, I really like it so much better than Sculpey.

Having a heatwave up here in Northern California right at the same time my AC broke down, so putting off sculpting anything until we get that fixed. Just too hot to move. I have a guy coming out today to look at our AC, hopefully he can fix it then I can get on the ball with this piece.

that's because they're wooden beads.

patty, sean, jester: thankizzle you muchizzle!
katherine dewey: come on in! it's nice and succulent!

alrighty then, the day after.
weather is so nice these days, i got my sculpting stuff out in the garden
and had three nice hours of doodling in the sun until i had just enough of the slight breeze blowing out my little metal-tool-heating-lamp.

went back in and took these pics. it's definitely going SOMEWHERE. i'll try and stick along...
