Working on this same model. I was surprised to see your having the same problem with the paint. I managed to get it to disappear with a few more coats when shading. I'm still not done with this part.

Re: The GENERAL 4-4-0 Engine and Tender, a MPC model

To answer the question about the single hole in the top of the smokestack, I believe that is how they actually were. The single hole in the middle was surrounded by screen. This allowed the smoke to shot out straight above the engine. Otherwise the smoke would blind the engineers driving. Thank You ...

The GENERAL 4-4-0 Engine and Tender, a MPC model

This is my latest model build. Built for my older brother who worked in a hobby shop back in the 50's-60's. He asked me to build this for him since he can't build models anymore. This model kit has a lot of problems. Mismatched parts. Warped parts. Old decals that didn't adhere to painted parts. Ins...

I built a car model. Are we allowing them in the Museum? Revell 2003 Thunderbird

I haven't built a car model in almost 30 years. I been mostly a figure builder and odd early aircraft builder. Do we still allow car model photos in the museum? Here are a few photos of my latest build. A 2003 Ford Thunderbird. Model by Revell came out that same year. Kit #84-1924. Snap-kit. Sculpto...

1910 DeHavilland No.1 aeroplane model, a Entex® kit

Finished building an Entex® kit of the 1910 DeHavilland No.1 aeroplane, as they called it back then. I hope to have some photos available soon to add to this post. The model is styrene plastic. It has fabric material that I glued on to the wings framework. I used Testors® brush-on Liquid Cement for ...

Painted Bunting

This is the latest bird model I built. It is from the Bachmann "Birds of the World" series. This kit was from the 1960's. All plastic model. Life-size scale 1:1. Original sculpt by Bill Lemmon before he worked for Aurora designing the Monster models. I painted this kit using Testors enamel...

Re: Any news on the Monarch Models 'Fly' kit?

Picked up the Monarch Fly kit. It in the stores now. Really nice kit. Looks very much like an old Aurora style kits of the 60’s. Absolutely love it. When you get it, build it the way you want. Aftermarket stuff for this is out there already. Since this is the first time building this kit for me, it ...

The place where it all started... the old HOBBY SHOP

I recently came across these old photos of the Hobby Shop that I can remember buying most of those old Aurora monster models. As well as car models, boat models, plane models, Lionel train stuff, Bachmann bird models, military models, slot cars and other things. The name of the store was "Asco ...

Bachmann Birds of the World - Robin

Finished building this Bachmann Birds of the World Robin kit. Normally an easy kit to build. This one was missing one of its legs and the perch. I resin cast those to finish this. Bill Lemon was the sculptor of these bird kits before he worked for Aurora. You can see more photos of the Robin in the ...
