Oh, I bet these are in the regular Kaiyodo/Billiken/etc. vinyl. I've heard kits referred to being in "soft vinyl" before in Japan and I knew for a fact that they were reg. vinyl. For some reason the japperknees sometimes refer to it as "soft".
