It's Back In!

I finally got the Chassis to fit back in the body! Here are a few progress shots.

Image

It's a close fit, but not too tight...

The Roll Cage really fills up the cockpit now.

Hehe, could be something from MAD MAX so far. I am really curious what you will do now with this Beast!

Circles & Squares!

I started by drawing several Circles on the Rear Pan. These are markers for Cooling Holes.

Image

Next I drilled a small hole in the center of each hole. I enlarged the holes with an X-Acto Knife and then a little larger with a small reamer.

Image

I cut out 4 Squares of plastic strip and glued them in place as shown. These are the cross members that support the engine.

Engine for the Beast!

I sprayed the Big Engine with Tamiya Camel Yellow. Then I brushed on some Silver, front and back.

Image

Next I brushed on a Black Water base Wash, The Detailer. I will wipe off some of the Wash later with a wet Q-Tip.

Image

Here is the Engine, almost complete now.

Image

After a little trimming, I got the Engine fit back into the Frame. Unfortunately the Chrome wiped off. I'll paint it later...

Cut it Out!...with a Drill?

I decided to turn the Van into a Bus! I'm going to cut out side windows, through which you can see the Engine.

Image

Here is the Funny Part. I cut out the Windows with a Drill Bit. I drilled a hole then pulled the Bit along the Line and it cut through as easy as can be...

Image

I used an X-Acto Knife and Sanding Boards to clean up the window lines.

Image

Here is a quick mock-up to show how the Engine can be seen through the windows...

Hi Ira....as usual, an amazing transformation...can I ask a question about the engine.....I can check the oil on my car and top up the washer fluid, and change a bulb...but, I know nothing about engine parts..  ....looking at the engine itself, there are two flattened flasks, crimped along the edges...( only way I could think of explaining them )...do they as engine parts have a particular name?....Once you tell me what it is I am looking at, I will explain why I have asked the question.....thanks.. :)

Paint it Black!

I sanded the Chassis down nice & smooth. Then I sprayed on a couple coats of Flat Black Primer.

Image

I found some Plastic Tubing that is the right diameter for the rear Axle. I cut it to the right length and glued it in place.

Image

Next I fit the Body on the Chassis and marked where the Axle will go through the Body. Then I cut it out with a Dremel Tool.

Axles!

I am using the Front Axle from the Monogram Pie Wagon. I cut off the plastic Axle Pins and drilled holes for steel Axle Pins. Then I glued in the New Pins with Zap-A-Gap.

Image

I did a little carving on these rear Suspension Parts from the Baja Beast Kit...

Image

Here they are painted Silver Leaf and glued in place.

After a little more paint and a Light Black Wash...

Hey Ira....thanks for that....I have posted a couple of pics of Alan Tracey from Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds series...the company that I sculpt for, Robert Harrop Designs are producing a new selection of models for next year...I am sculpting him from an episode called Ricochet with him wearing a space suit....the two objects on his chest plate with the red wires going into them, look exactly like the valve covers in your build....the props team would have used anything available back in 1965.....the puppets were about knee height, making the objects in question about 1.5 to 2 inches long....do you think that the build team could have used something from a model engine ?....they look too similar to have been invented fro the mind of the puppet maker back then... :)
