Warp Shadow Vessel - WIP
One of my scores at WF this year was the Warp Shadow Ship.
I stumbled across one of these during an ebay search several months ago, which is what got me interested. That one was missing a couple pieces and went higher than I was willing to pay.
Well, fast forward to WF. On my 2nd pass around the dealers room, I stumbled across this kit at the Hodge Hobbies table. In a plane brown shipping box, with marker on it saying Shadow Ship.
I opened it up and checked it out, and sure enough, it's the same kit I've been searching ebay for since I stumbled on that auction.
So I bought it.
Man, this thing is old school!
Like, I'm going to have to do some serious modeling with this kit.
I know, most people cringe when that happens, but it just puts a big grin on my face
I've got lots of flash to deal with.
But there are no voids and only 1 broken piece.
And speaking of broken pieces, this is some super brittle material. Gonna have to be real careful with it.
Hopefully this will be as fun as I think it will be, and not turn into a frustrating mess.
The really odd thing is, normally I have trouble deciding how to paint things.
This time I already have most of it thought out, even though I am look at long term clean up and assembly.
I'm thinking a basecoat of light pearl gray. With metallic black drybrushing.

That bottom pic looks like something I (luckily) stepped over in my back yard yesterday. I don't even know what the heck this is! I'll have to Google it.

I have a bad habbit of assuming people know the same stuff I do.
Here is a pic from google.
Although a static photo really doesn't give you the feel of the ship.
Here is a good clip from the show that shows it quite well.

Re: Warp Shadow Vessel - WIP
Warp kits, like many kits here in the UK are/were made from a horrible polyester resin - it's brittle, it stinks and it's sticky. But hey, it's cheap!tay666 wrote:But there are no voids and only 1 broken piece.

It's a great ship though! Good luck

Well, so far, this stuff isn't stinky or sticky.
Planning on a major dremel session tomorrow.

It's usually what I have on hand when taking pics.
But yeah, I do need to shoot some pics.
So far just have the 3 body sections dremeled.
Been busy with construction projects around the house the last couple weeks.
This stuff is pretty tough, so it takes a while to grind it off. And I have to keep switching bits.
If I try to start with the thinner ones, it just wants to stick in one spot and dig in. So I have to start with bigger bits and work my way down.

Re: Warp Shadow Vessel - WIP
Hey Trev,
Whatever happened with your Shadow Ship build. You ever get 'er done? If so, have any pics to share?
What colors did you end up painting it?
I recently uncovered both a Shadow Ship, along with a White Star, both by Warp. (They had been
sequestered up in one of my attics, for years).
Upon busting the box of the Shadow ship open and unpacking all parts, I realized that after a bit of
cleanup of the parts, the kit would be fun to both assemble, along with paint.
(....Which leads me to my questions posted above).

Re: Warp Shadow Vessel - WIP
Sadly, I haven't gotten anywhere with it.
It was 'on the bench' when I started packing things up to move. At this point it is still packed away somewhere. I haven't dug into whatever box it is in yet.
My intention when I finally get it all cleaned up and the ends pinned on, I was going to experiment with black metal-flake and black pearlescent, and see what looked best.

I like where you're headed, with your painting options. Who're the manufacturers of the black metal-flake along with thetay666 wrote:Sadly, I haven't gotten anywhere with it.

Re: Warp Shadow Vessel - WIP
I haven't actually sourced any yet, but I figured when the time came, I would be able to find some.
I know Krylon makes a black shimmer metalic that I have seen, but haven't bought any to test.
They also have a black glitter paint as well.
Testors also has a black pearl metallic.
I also have some pearlescent additive that can be added to acrylic paint.
Now that I am talking about it, I am thinking I should probably start locating some of this stuff and stocking up. With my luck, by the time I am ready to try something most will be discontinued for health reasons or something.

Good luck with it! I have a WARP White Star in my stash. The frequent shattering of the resin kinda put me off finishing the build. Someday, perhaps.

Wrt the paint, I've been toying around with basecoating it in some sort of shimmering black first.tay666 wrote:I haven't actually sourced any yet, but I figured when the time came, I would be able to find some.

However, before the paint completely cures, dry-brushing some of Pearl EX's pigments (an Art supply
product) over it, focusing on coating the raised areas with this metallic pigment. (Not sure if this will be
overkill or not; but I guess I can and should experiment with it first).
