Zvezda Star Destroyer- Build #2
I received my second Zvezda SD. I sold the first one I built. So, using that one as a learning experience, I'm building a second that I will keep for myself! I'm making more changes to the second, adding some 3D printed parts and a few surprises.
First, I'm starting out with a few accessory ships that will accompany the SD on her base. These are in scale 3Dprinted ships of the Tantive IV and the Falcon. While others added these ships to their DS before I think mine will be the first that are BOTH lighted.
An early lighting test of the cockpit and engines.
After some light blocking and primer coats.
I drilled a groove in the bottom hull to accept a Pico LED. This was epoxied in place. Its hard to get good pictures of this as it's so dang tiny!!!
A coat of black and then grey primer followed up by Tamiya AS-20.
I sanded the engine panel after final paint to reveal the semi transparent print material. I also did the same for the cockpit. And of course, the camera couldn't focus well and over exposed the light. It's not that bright in person. I'll try and get some better pics today.

Finished up the Tantive IV. Other than soldering the LEDs it was fairly easy to light up.
And all lit up!

Here is the finished 1/2700 Falcon. It's so hard to get any clear pictures of it! The engines are not as bright in person, it's much more realistic. And yes, light is shining through the canopy as well.
Officially the smallest model I have ever lit!!!!

And Ive done some work on the SD herself. The hexagon base for the shield generators was cut out and replaced with plasticard and putty. This provides a smooth base for TonyRR's awesome 3D printed parts. I also used his garbage chute as well.

Re: Zvezda Star Destroyer- Build #2
Where did you get your 3D printed parts, if you don't mind?
Thanks,

The Star Destroyer parts are made by TonyRR on Shapeways.

The Tantive is by Age of Plastic on Shapeways.

Sadly though, his Falcon is no longer available.

Thanks for sharing this build with us. I would love to pick one of these up after I complete my Salzo Galactica.
Re: Zvezda Star Destroyer- Build #2
Salzo Galactica? Great kit. Are you using any of the 3D printed parts? I had a hand in designing some of them. Here is my build.
Re: Zvezda Star Destroyer- Build #2
I am going to pick up the honey comb covers for the engines. I just got a cast from Mike and his new kits are including the newer bridge, domes, launch tubes, and landing bay interiors. I am however wanting to get ahold of the little parts package that included the recasted Morsar Karl frames and the saturn parts. Also need to track down the name plate that was made for the kit.
I noticed your posts in the RPF threads I have been following to help me with my build. It is by far the largest, most complicated kit I have ever built but also the funnest and most rewarding!

Oh, and your build up is awesome. I have studied it many times.

Well that's quite the standard you're setting there. Bravo.
Re: Zvezda Star Destroyer- Build #2
So... I found one of these at a local hobby shop was marked $129.99 and the guy told me he would go $100 with tax. Needless to say I now have a SD. Wife is going to kick my ass.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Sorry been away for a while. I had a heart attack two weeks ago today and had a seven artery bypass.

WOW!! a 7 artery? Hope you take it easy for a while!

Re: Zvezda Star Destroyer- Build #2
Thanks a lot guys. Yes, they did a 7 artery bypass. My surgeon said I recovered faster than anyone he has seen. I was up and walking the entire ICU floor the day I woke up (slept for 24 hours). Most he said can only do a few steps at first.
I'll slowly get back into this build and add more updates. I'm going for a side mount, ala filming miniature, for this build.
