Space Cadet's Huygens Lander
Hey all,
Been busy with it cold outside with the Huygens Lander. space Cadet's is a new Real Space kit "Co."
This was their first release, and boy what detail!
I have to admit with my bad eyesight and sausage fingers, certain steps were a little aggravating. But it shows others that if I can do it, anyone can.
Here are a few pics along the way.
Some parts are tiny, take your time...
The little fins tested my patience, but they're all there
Building HASI
Build done. I went to the extra steps and added the parachute jettison wiring with some lead wiring.
On the the paint booth - - thanks for looking.

Hey Kev, great stuff there! Is Facebook the only place to view their catalog? That's the only place I found anything but I'm not a Facebook person. Know of a website?
Thanks,

Thanks!
They're new so their catalog is only two items - the Huygens, and they did an early Pioneers set which gives you Pioneer 2 and 4 in 1/12 scale so it lines up with Glenn's (Real Space Models) 1/12 Sputnik and explorer 1.
IIRC they said they are working on a regular webpage too. But for now FB is it. But they have set their page to "public", so anyone can go and look -
https://www.facebook.com/spacecadetmodels/
One of the "cadets", Karl, can also be reached at - spacey57@comcast.net You could contact him that way too. HTH

Thanks Kev! I love the early NASA stuff. Especially satellites.

Forgot to ask, are they based in the US?

Re: Space Cadet's Huygens Lander
Showing my Lander on the Yahoo Space Modelers group, I got a note later on saying I installed the landing radar upside down. I have no idea how it happened was was happy when they simply snapped off the Lander and I was able to reinstall them correctly. Thanks Scott.
While I was waiting for the glue to dry on the Lander I turned my attention to the base. Instructions says Titan is between a wood and dark brown color. So I went with V's Orange Ocher which is really more brown than orange as a base. The sun was streaming in and it cast some shadows across the base. I thought it may not be 100% correct (tho clouds have to break on Titan even momentarily) but I'm going to add that too. Some Titan ice was also added and I was called the base done.
Then I turned my airbrush back to the Lander. The instructions say it's a combo of gold and silver, So I went to Vs new Metallics line and sprayed a 4 to 3 mix of gold to silver. The image makes it look too silver. But in real life there gold in there.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the encouragement.
This last session I could call the model done. I painted the experiments, and then used Citadels Agrax to highlight the rivets a bit. Then I added the parachute cord and added little bits of thin Tamiya tape to replicate the Velcro hold downs on the cord.
The last thing I did was to get rid of the lander's shadow. I always overdo it, and that was true this time when I added black to the shadow. All it did was make the ground look burnt. So away it all went. Thanks for looking.

Re: Space Cadet's Huygens Lander
Ah, you finished it! I like!! You did a great job of it Kev. I saw the shadow on the base and I thought it was scorched ground so I see why you removed it. I'll have to look into getting one of these. My space interest has been sidelined by monsters and I need to get back and caught up on my real space. Jeez, too many genre's!

That's some serious PE work, sausages aside.
Excellent finish and beautiful presentation.

Re: Space Cadet's Huygens Lander
Thanks guys.
Speedster, I hear ya. I have a ton of real space and sci-fi kits b/c I found organic things - people monsters, and animals much easier to do. But I do have Fantastic Plastic's old XLS-01 Moonship Glider on the desk now...

Wow! Amazing detail. I don't think I can with such fiddly little parts anymore. It's great seeing your build up!

CALM DOWN. It's only a hobby.
Oh, and MODEL ON!

It's a kit thats not necessarily hard, but where you definitely need patience. I would give myself a certain amt. of time with it each day and then put it aside and do something else.
