Jungle Cruiser (1937)--Finished!

Re: Jungle Cruiser (1937)
The Jungle Cruiser is now green; although all the old photos are of course black and white, one of the movie posters shows it in green, and I thought that'd be a lot more interesting than that boring old standby grey. I'm currently weathering it; it's had a dark wash and next I think will be some dot filters; then a spray of dust color (Testors Russian Earth Grey is my go-to for dust) and some drybrushing.
Nameplates: I got the rubber stamps from Rubberstamps.net, and poured a rubber mold the other day. Unfortunately the mold had way too many air bubbles in it and my test casting was unusable. So I just got done pouring another mold, scrabbling around the letters furiously with the point of a toothpick to dislodge any clinging bubbles, and I think the second mold will be much better. We'll see in a day or two.

Quick update: The Cruiser and its sister, the Juggernaut, are finished. I'm working on a base for them; the plywood is cut and the edges varnished; right now I'm waiting for the drywall mud I used for groundwork to dry. I'll post pics when the whole shebang is finished.

Aw, what the heck; I got excited and took some pictures (on our vivid yellow tablecloth):

That is some really amazing fabrication of a challenging (and very cool) subject.
Re: Jungle Cruiser (1937)
The groundwork is done and the vehicles and nameplates are mounted to the base. Currently I'm waiting for a kit of a movie camera to arrive from Australia; when it gets here, I'll slap it together, add it to the base, and post some pics.

Re: Jungle Cruiser (1937)
Can't wait to see it all done.
Don't think I commented much (or at all) during this thread, but I have been watching it with interest.

If all goes well, it'll be at Wonderfest. . Although it may not have the movie camera.
Re: Jungle Cruiser (1937)
The camera arrived yesterday, and thanks to our Modern Age of super glue, 5-minute epoxy, and fast-drying acrylic paints, it's now installed on the base. So here are the final pics of the Juggernaut and Jungle Cruiser:

Everything about this screams quality & passion.
The abilities, patience & determination required to scratch-build to this level of detail are WAY beyond most people in the hobby.
So much talent.
And then you top it off with REALLY good photos as well.
I hope everyone that sees the pictures, or are lucky enough to view for real, appreciate all the work that went into this.
Hope you are very proud - because you should be!
Ian/Spike.

Re: Jungle Cruiser (1937)--Finished!
Those are absolutely fantastic. I LOVE the fact that you scratch built them - after all, anyone can just glue a kit together and make it look pretty - but to do the work from scratch yourself - aye, THAT is real talent!!! (And the kind of challenge that I can personally appreciate, being an old kit-basher).
Any thought to adding some in-scale explorer figures to heighten the realism? Between all manner of pre-made figures (and others available on print sites like Shapeways), I know you could assemble the entire crew if you wanted to. That would be my only add-on suggestion. In-scale people make vehicles look that much more realistic ....

Re: Jungle Cruiser (1937)--Finished!
Thanks for your comments! I only scratchbuilt the Jungle Cruiser; the Juggernaut I just assembled (and not much of that was needed; it was only two major parts and a handful of toothpicks and a bit of wire) and painted.
I thought about figures, but just didn't feel like it. I did add the movie camera to give a sense of scale, though.

I think no figures is the better way to go.
That way the vehicles are the star of the attraction.
