5 "Auroras" In 2 Weeks

#1 Post by Jim Bertges »

I must be getting old. I know I've shared pics of these guys in several places, but I don't think I've shown them here. Please bear with me if you've already seen these.

So, I picked up a batch of partly finished, partly started, missing parts Aurora, Polar Lights, Monogram and Luminator kits from Ebay with an eye toward restoring them to help Creature Features fill their "Classic Plastic" display case. In the space of two weeks they went from bags of parts and disheveled kits to these finished pieces. I hope you enjoy seeing them.

In case you're interested that's a very old Thomas Kuntz sculpted Bela head from Diceman on the Dracula kit. Thanks to Tom Parker for helping to identify it.

Cool work all the way round, and two weeks? I'd still be taking the plastic wrap off. 8) 8)

Outstanding work on all counts Jim! 8) That's some fast work, If I really pushed it I might be able to get 2 kits in five weeks done.

Thanks, guys. I have my assembly line skills honed. It keeps things moving along on the workbench until those "special needs" pop up to slow me down. It also helps that I've built all those kits more than once before.

Should be a special category for "speed modeling," Jim. And they turned out great. :D

That's a pretty old Lugosi head and it hasn't been around for a long time, except in my parts box. I just decided it was time to use it.

Creature Features is a specialty shop in Burbank, CA. By the name, I'll bet you can guess what their specialty is. They also have numerous items listed on eBay.

Thanks for the great comments.

I would like to doubly-congratulate you.
First, for pulling off the amazing feat of finishing all those kits in such a short amount of time.
Second, for doing such a good job in the process.
I would struggle to get some of those results with multiple months of work.

Thanks again.

Don't tell anyone, but I've got another 4 styrene kits on the workbench now, with another 2 in the wings. No rest for the wicked.

OK, here's six more I just finished. To be fair the 2001 Astronaut and the Witch were already in progress before I built the other four. They took a little more time because of some additional details they needed.

Image

I beleive this 2001 Astronaut is by Lunar. He came without a Monolith, a front pack or a back pack. I had to scratchbuild all three of those items.
Image

Herman was quick and fun with no special additions.
Image

I added a bit of model railroad ballast to represent coal in Bert's Scuttle Bucket.
Image

Satan got some flames made from cotton and an air scoop on his engine.
Image

Another quick, fun build with no extras.
Image
Image

This is the Glow In The Dark Witch with a string of 15 Christmas LEDs hidden in secret places.
Image

Now I only have two more kits on the bench, then I'll have to look for something new to do.

Thats an outstanding array of model work in a short time. Instead of creative juices flowing its more like a gully washer after a torrential downpour! Are you in any danger of running out of kits to build?

Is that Kuntz/Lugosi head still available?

Will any of us ever run out of kits? I may slow down, but I'll never run out.

That head was from Diceman and I got it years ago. I don't think it's available any more, but I don't know for sure.
