The Mummy, the kit that started it all!

#1 Post by Tiger2 »

Hi Folks, here are my efforts with this classic kit. This was the one that set me off on the monster model trail
when I was 6 years old! It has remained my all time favourite Aurora monster as it was the one that looked
most like the box top. Tried to paint him in a similar style to the artwork, minus the bloody eye!

Great job very realistic I built my Mummy almost the same way and what's this with the bloody eye never saw that in the movie LOL, I'm sure liking these classic horror kits making their appearances again. Karl

Beautiful work. I like your choice of colors on the bandages as it contrasts well against the base.

Nice work! I built the Luminators version, a few years ago. The seams took some time. Gotta love the classic kits. :)

That is absolutely STUNNING! Can you talk a little about your techinique - what kinds of paints you used - if you did washes or direct blending, that sort of thing. I'm super interested in finding out how you painted it.

Thanks
-Daniel

Thanks for all your great feedback guys, the painting was just good old fashioned washes and dry brushing, nothing special really. Blues, greys and Browns. Great to hear you all like him.

Great work! I prefer grey ones to tan ones and yours has that moonlight sort of iridescent look just like the box art. Nice work on the sandy base too.

A very nice job on that Mummy. I recently won a bidon the Monogarm luminators version of this kit as it was the cheapest option of getting hold of one in the UK. I intend to paint it and if I get close to this I'll be very pleased. I had an all black plastic Aurioa one and a glow in the dark Aurora version at various points as a kid. This one and the Wolfman were my favourites, probably because I loved the Channey and Karloff movies. I like the subtle contrast between the figure and the base. I considered doing mine in grey scale just like the B&W movie. :D

Cheers fellas, as I said at the start, the kit holds a lot of memories for me as it was the one I always wanted as a kid and set my off building monsters. Actually, the first one I acquired was my neighbours kit, I was about 5 or 6, had been ill with the flu and he brought it round and gave it to me to cheer me up! I then got another to build myself, along with the Creature, Franky, the Hunchback etc. although this is the only one I wanted to build again as an adult!

Considering the age of the sculpt I still think this kit cuts the mustard and still looks way cool!
