ACK! ACK! MARS ATTACKS!

#1 Post by Tim Casey »

I actually walked into a hobby shop in Malden, MA - I found it by accident. The nostalgia was overwhelming, so I bought this model, and I sure am glad I did!

Oh wow!

I've been wanting to pick this kit up, because it just looks like a cool piece.

The work you've done on it really makes me want to grab one now.
This has to be the best build-up I've seen on it yet.
I really like your color selection. As well as the way you played down the gore factor in the victim. I also didn't realize the head had so much detail to it. Most other builds I have seen have kind of obscured some of that detail with the paint work. Your paint makes it all 'pop'.

Thanks so much for sharing.

Nice work! I thought this was a great kit also! I put an LED light in the lamp post on mine, I only wish they could have made the clear helmet seamless.

Fantastic job! Great paint and your work really shows off the detail. Hard to believe it's a styrene kit.

Yeah, Moebius put it out recently. (some time within the past 12 months I think, hard to keep track of which releases came out when anymore)

Very cool model. Excellent job on the paint up. I really have to look for this guy. How is the light pole? Can you light it?

I wasn't sure about getting this one until I saw this build-up. Very nicely done! :thumb:

Thanks, everyone. This really is a very cool model.

The light pole is hollow - the post is an aluminum tube. You can light it fairly easily - I think you may need to drill a hole in the upper part of the base, but the aluminum tube fits snugly and isn't glued in, so you can easily access the place where you'd need to drill into the plastic, which should be pretty easy.

I might try to light it when I feel ambitious - probably sometime in the next decade!

Nice one, I've got one of the huge Mars attacks dioramas made by screaming up in my mums loft somewhere think it was called slaughter in the streets. Loads to paint on that one if you can still find one.

Beautiful work on this kit!

I'm in the middle of it myself. All that puttying and sanding the seams on the leg and arm ribbing is definitely taxing.

I don't think that the (victim) head has much detail - but it is improved by the way that Tim has painted it.
