Suggest a replacement parts project for the MPC werewolf

#1 Post by Todd P. »

Thanks partly to the head's up on a great price from Big Daddy Dave H, I have a bunch of MPC Dark Shadows two-packs on hand. I've purchased them all since the death of our friend Tom Parker, because I'm working with Jeff Yagher to finish what I guess was probably Tom's last replacement parts project. Interestingly, the prices I got for the two-packs, which include Barnabas the vampire and Quentin the werewolf, were less than I could find for the Barnabas kit alone.

I know I'm going to sell the bagged Barnabas kits with the replacement part, specifics on that to be announced later. I'm also going to do another replacement parts project for the Barnabas kit. But what to do with all these werewolf kits? They're pretty neat, but no way am I going to build more than a dozen of these werewolves.

So, I'm hoping someone here can suggest a replacement part(s) project for the werewolf kit. At most, it could make sense to replace the plastic kit's head, hands and feet. The best idea I have so far is a Paul Naschy Wolfman, which would mean only a new head. But I'm not sure there's much market for a Naschy werewolf.

Any suggestions?

First, I was thinking the sweater jacket might make a great Mr. Rogers. Then I got that song stuck in my head "Won't You Be My Neighbor?". After banging my head on the desk several times to get that song out, I thought what about "I was a Teenage Werewolf" that would make a cool transition. ...and there's no song accompaniment.

That sweater throws me, too.

Teenage Werewolf is a GREAT suggestion! Thanks!

Tough one. The Teenage Werewolf is a great idea. I was trying to think of a character that might work from Twilight Zone, Thriller or Outer Limits, but could not find a close fit to the sweater either while searching. Which brings me to my best suggestion at the moment - a generic zombie maybe?

I gave this some more thought, what about an Ygor replacement parts set. The sweater is not an exact match from anything in the movies, but I could see it working because it would probably be something he would wear. Pair that up with my COPP Son of Frankenstein Monster and Dr. Wolf Frankenstein conversion kits and I'd be a happy monster modeler!

Hmmm ... Igor is a neat idea, but it'd be hard to pull off. I'd have to find a way to put a hump on the back. I'll think about it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I like the zombie idea. Heck, it might even work to convert this guy to Ben from Night of the Living Dead. That'd be my third Ben kit.

Really hard to think of a character with cargo pants and a sweater.

J.R. "Bob" Dobbs from Church of the SubGenius, maybe?

Might work, but I'd have to replace the feet and hands as well as the head. Probably add a chainsaw and boomstick.

Thanks. The original plastic head is pretty bad for sure. However, the Dark Shadows two-pack also includes the resin replacement heads that originated from Cult of Personality, and those are pretty great.
