Turn your Dr. Deadly into Tor Johnson

#1 Post by Todd P. »

This is Rainer Engel's brainchild, shaped by Troy McDevitt, and it fits Dr. Deadly. Ain't it cool?

Also, have I mentioned lately that Spock is managing a killer website for me? If you haven't seen it, please check out http://www.escapehatchhobbies.com/. Sign up for the mailing list to be among the first to get the word about when Tor and other new replacement parts will be available.

Thanks.

Like it!

Now we need to make these Monster Scenes into Bride of the Monster movie.

Add Bela, the octopus, and some bowl thingy to put on his victims head.

Building up these old time horror kits is not my thing (though I was once a BIG fan of the genre), BUT ...

... this has just got to be THE HANDS DOWN BEST HEAD CUSTOMIZATION I have ever seen in the genre. I mean its just AWESOME.

Tor Johnson was just campily AWESOME in every horror role he was in, and this custom captures that to a "T".

BTW - I have to ask - does anyone remember a terribly BAD 1950s B horror film with Tor Johnson in which, somewhere towards the end, he emotes in a soliliquoy that was clearly meant to be a Shakespearean parody. I recall seeing this film on TV in the 1970s, I have no idea what it was called or what it was about.

I have tried finding this scene on youtube just to (once again) enjoy the absurdity and unintended comedy of Tor Johnson's attempts at stage gravitas, but I've had no luck.

Does anyone else have any idea what movie this scene appeared in? (Assuming my memory is close to accurate).

Thanks!!

Scott, I just subscribed to the email list. I'm probably gonna get both the Tor Johnson and the Karloff Frankenstein heads - I have a question for you:

Any plans to do a Lugosi Dracula head? That would be a nice trio to have to display.

I'm gonna do a Lugosi head as soon as the budget allows, but it'll be in 1/8 scale. Tor is 1/13. I wish it made sense to offer more replacement parts for the Monster Scenes, but there are so few of those kits available that it's a risky investment. Maybe I'll do a Drive-In Scenes Vampira and Lugosi, that'd be fun.

That is the coolest thing I've seen in a while.

I have a bunch of Monster Scene kit, but no Dr Deadly. I guess I need to hunt one down. ;)
Plausible deniability.

Not hard to do. That one is still pretty common.
The only two that are pricey are Frank and Vampi.

Todd - I just ordered a Tor Johnson head from your website. I haven't done this genre of kits since I was a kid - but ... that head!!

(Picked up a "Dr Deadly" kit on ebay, AND a Moebius Frankenstein kit - now I'm just waiting for your Karloff head to be ready - and Lugosi and Chaney Jr. would be nice too!!!) :drool2:

Thanks!

OK .... so .... Spock ... first Todd produces a Tor Johnson head that gets this grown man to buy an old Aurora-designed Monster Scenes kit ... (which he hadn't done, in, I dunno ... 46 years probably) ... then you post this photo (see above) ... I keep seeing it, so ... tonight, I ordered Monster Scenes "Victim" kit and the "Dungeon" kit, the better to re-create the pose pictured above ... you two ought to be ashamed of yourselves ...

After tax time, if there are any left, I'll probably pick one of these up. Just to add variety to all the Dr Deadly's I have intentions on building.

My "Tor" head for the "Dr Deadly" kit arrived today - it looks just as good in person if not better. PERFECT fit into the kit - I have to say I am warming up to this idea of "custom heads" to improve old styrene kits.

Thanks Todd!! :like

Can't wait for Frankie and Bela!!!
