Aurora George Washington

#1 Post by dklange »

Like many of us, I spent many hours as a kid wandering around the local hobby shop, dreaming of building and painting so many of the model kits on the shelves. I completed work on an original 1965 Aurora George Washington kit. I've only seen a few samples of this kit as a nicely completed model. So, here's my rendition of a very cool, classic model.

you did a great paintjob on this kit I always wanted to get this kit being I grew up just south of Washingtons Crossing. my town was where he split his troops with General Sullivan taking the River Road and Washington and Green marching to Trenton from the north. This kit screams for a backdrop painting with the forced perspective of the model. You really painted it well.

Wow, nice job. When I look at pictures of this kit, I can never quite wrap my head around the boat; what does the kit part really look like, I wonder to myself. Strange half-sculpture, half flat thing.

Here is some info on the painting of Washington Crossing the Delaware. The original painting by Emanuel Leutze. The guy holding the flag is James Monroe. The person wearing red is a woman. The guy holding his hat is General Edward Hand. The guy leaning over the side of the boat is General Nathanael Greene.

Thanks for the great comments! It's definitely one of the cooler and more rare kits from the old Aurora catalog. 8)

It was amazing what they did the troops time in service was almost up January 1 they could go home many deserted. Washington tasked Gen. Mad Anthony Wayne with keeping the troops together. Under penalty of death they had to do this mission. The American army had been getting their asses kicked for years starting with NY. I have seen the Delaware frozen I cannot imagine crossing it in those conditions horses too.the victory at Trenton turned the tide of the war and fired everybody up.

Very nice job! I love this kit.

What kind of condition was the kit in when you got it? Built, partially built, un-built?

What kind of paints do you use?

Thanks! The kit was new, still in the box with many pieces still on the sprues. I mainly use Tamiya and Garage Kits paints.

How did I miss this the first time around?

Great work. I love all the color selections, and the shading is phenomenal.
