I thought the styrene lovers here would be interested. New replacement head and jaw for the Aurora Godzilla, which will be reissued this summer by Atlantis. Also comes with a longer tail.

People on the mailing list at Escape Hatch Hobbies, escapehatchhobbies.com, will be the first notified about release information.

Thanks for looking.

Couple photos from Mark McGovern, who's building the kit with replacement parts.

For comparison's sake, the "stock" kit.

Very Nice! This was one of my first Aurora kits that I built as a child. I like the updates. If Mark McGovern is listening in, I would like to know what the grey material is on the seams. It looks like it has covered them really well and retained the detail. Interesting. Thanks!

Pretty sure it's an epoxy putty. My favorite is Apoxie from Aves Studio.

Thanks, Todd. I have used putties before, but always lose detail. Maybe it's his method of applying that makes this look different to me. I think I might be applying to heavily. His seams just look so neat and clean.

He's probably resculpting the lost detail into the putty before it cures. That's why I prefer Aves epoxy putty over standard hobby putties like Tamiya for filling seams on figure kits.

I agree. One thing about Aves and similar epoxy putties such as Magic Sculpt is that they hold their shape once they're sculpted. For those unfamiliar with them, epoxy putties work like clay. Flexible but stable when worked onto a surface, not real thick. Wetting them helps to shape them more cleanly. They set up in about six hours, whereupon you can sand, file or whittle them to refine the look even more.

I still recommend David Fisher's Modelmania videos to people looking to learn the hobby's basics, including working with epoxy putty. Volumes 1-3 have most everything you need to know.

A note of caution: I've known one person who was terribly allergic to epoxy putties. Her eyes swelled up like E.T.'s when she worked with it.

One more thing to add is that epoxy putty will sag if applied too thickly. I think it's about perfect for filling and resculpting the seams on kits such as the Aurora Godzilla.

Finally had the cash to place my order for these beautiful pieces today.

Some day I am really going to have to get cracking on all the godzilla conversion pieces I have.

Got my sets in the mail today.
They are so beautiful. Both the sculpt, and the castings.

Thanks Todd!
