RIP Joe Mendillo Netherworld Models

#1 Post by LilMonster »

I just learned of this on Sunday. I was trying to contact him about some parts for kits in my closet so I can get them sold. I googled and was taken to An obit for him. It didnt really say much so i checked further and found out it was true. It happened a little over a year ago. Did not learn the cause. Kind of creepy was the fact I got most of my info from an article about his house that was a victim of arson that almost killed the two people that bought his house from his estate, almost exactly one year later. The story of Joe was very interesting. He was a funny and kind of a strange man but I got along really well with him. When I was doing my mail order he brought out X-Rex, Dr. Channard, Julia,Edward Scissorhands and all his cool kits. People had a hard time getting product from him but he always made sure He filled my orders quickly no matter how big they were. He was very active, it seems, in the Poughkeepsie Area. His house was an amazing Halloween location and was going to be turned into a small museum of the things he collected, His model kits and other art he was involved with. Netherworld And Joe were a unique part of the kit world for a while. And so I say goodbye to another friend in this hobby

Yeah it was surprising last year when he just died. Not even sick first.

I know many here will not share your sentiment. I recall a few getting downright nasty about him.

oh yeah, I was excepting some comments. His business practices were not what I would call stellar. I had a decent relationship with him on that respect and I was able to get his pieces out to quite a few people. I was just making people aware as he was a part of the hobby and this is the place to post it.

Actually it was on facebook primarily as he was never a member here or in good standing in the hobby.
