Clubhouse Housekeeping

#1 Post by Batmaniak »

Hey Everyone,

As we are preparing to upgrade the forum software, we are doing some housekeeping on the database. Part of that will include cleaning up dead accounts. We haven't finalized everything yet, but we are thinking of truncating any users that have not been active in the past two years (e.g. no posts since early 2006). Less than 10% of the registered members are active participants on a day to day basis, but I expect there are a lot of lurkers. If you are lurking while reading this, you should make a post of two so that your account doesn't get wiped out. ;)

As for other things we talked about during the funding drive...

We are on the new dedicated server already, and while we've had a few hiccups, the board has been more stable with faster response for the last month. We've created 5 new forums to help with special interests and show communication as well. In June, we asked Surpass to create a instance of the Clubhouse with the new software, which was successful, but highlighted a few areas that we need to address before we do it for real. The biggest issues is that we will need to take an outage as we backing up the existing board, then creating a brand new instance of the Clubhouse.

After the forum upgrade we will turn to fixing some existing functionality, like the Model Museum (including the Sculpting Jam section), and we are currently evaluating some Wiki software with the idea of porting the modeling and sculpting Tips, Tricks and Terms, and other FAQ's into a hobby wiki for the Clubhouse members. Similar to wikipedia, members would be able to author topics and then we'd publish them into the wiki. Also, we are in the midst of upgrading some of the pages to use similar styles to give the Clubhouse a more cohesive look and feel. While we are doing this, we are also fixing broken pages/links and upgrading member contact info in the Dealers Index and Members homepages.

As with everything else, time is the resource we are short on. This was partly addressed with the appointments of several new moderators, and also with the automation of some maintenance tasks. We thank you for your patience and we hope to get the board converted over sooner than later. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact any of the Clubhouse Staff.

Thanks!
