The early reviews for Captain America: Civil War are enthusiastic on Rotten Tomatoes.
I rarely see movies on the big screen anymore, and months ago I designated this new movie as one I wouldn't see. Lots of reasons, the primary ones being that the comic movies are running out of steam for me, I don't much like theaters and I dislike what I know about the story in the comics. But I may reconsider, especially if I find out this one isn't kid-unfriendly.

Re: Early reactions to "Civil War" enthusiastic
I REALLY wanted to like this more than I did. Spidey and Ant-Man were high points, but like "Age of Ultron" the story was not as good as it's predecessor, and the fourth act, while a "gut-punch" , was also kind of a let-down based on a built-up potential climax that not only went nowhere, but was resolved offscreen. As were ALOT of plotpoints, seemingly based on Marvel's stinginess with actors and actresses. I would put it up there with Iron Man III; entertaining, but with misfires along the way, and not as great as the sum of it's parts.

Re: Early reactions to "Civil War" enthusiastic
Because of the nature of the story this was in reality a third Avengers movie, not a Captain America story.
I think screen time was evenly split between Cap and Iron Man.
And that's too bad.
The Iron Man films have been about Iron Man and the Thor films have focused on that character and others from Asgard.
But I felt Cap was cheated in this film. I would have appreciated a full Captain America story instead of an Avengers installment.
Even though Cap proves more heroic in this movie I think this would have been better as "Avengers - Civil War." Then, I think I would have been more at ease with the decision to relegate the title character to co-star billing.
Just my 2 cents...

I thought it was better than the series it was based on. A worthy follow up to the excellent Winter Soldier (probably my favorite of the Marvel flicks) that does a decent job of juggling so many characters, and decent motivations for their behavior and actions. Probably the closest film version of Peter Parker yet, and Paul Rudd was great in the brief time he was given.

Agreed on all points. Really liked the way they handled Parker, The Black Panther, and the unexpected (for me) transformation of Ant Man.Zeiram wrote:I thought it was better than the series it was based on. I thought it was the best Marvel movie yet. In fact, possibly the best comic book movie I have seen.
His was a tale of sorrow...
