Holy crap. Tonight's episode was something else. Kind of a mash up of Prince of Darkness and another movie (or two) that I won't mention to avoid spoilers. A very strong entry.

S10E06 - "Extremis"

No idea what movies you were thinking of Larry - but I agree on the ep.

By FAR the best in the season so far.

All sort of things we liked about this - script, ALL the characters & acting, humour, one-liners, pacing, twists, beasties, subplots . . . I won't detail because of - yeah - spoilers . . . well - except for Angelina Jolie :)

Awesome :thumb2:

I loved the episode. Doorways to different projected scenarios. How better to plan for an invasion?

Larry, I've got to admit. I'm with Ian. I'm not following the movie thing either. Which movies did you feel were reflected in the episode?

Matrix or 13th Floor both came to mind.

S10E07 – “The Pyramid At The End Of The World”

4 minutes in and I’m ashamed to admit I thought of the phrase “Pyramid scheme” and lol’d (* slaps head in disgust with himself*)

A minute later we see Capaldi with his guitar and I was hoping (against hope it turns out) he’d break into “Powerslave” . . .

THEN we get "11:57pm" – SO close! . . . . . I’m telling you – Moffat’s a Maiden fan! And THEN - LMAO – well – you know where it went. I rest my case Milud.
    • Ah – special personal observations best shared with no-one (ooooops :) )
Some of the music in the first 10 mins reminded me of the Angelina Jolie “Lara Croft” movies - very atmospheric - and MAN have budgets come a long way since those Pertwee & Baker episodes  :thumb2:

Classic one-liners again, and a very entertaining part 2 (of 3 I believe).

It certainly had its dumb “I think these guys wrote Prometheus under a pseudonym” moments, but enjoyable all the same.

Roll on part 3.

Not as strong as Extremis, but I want to see where this goes next.

Because there couldn't possibly be a scientist who's a dwarf... I agree. The part should have been cast as a size 0 super model with her lab coat unbuttoned to her navel. :P

"Lie of the Land" started out so strong, then veered into a formulaic resolution. Not terrible, but I felt let down with what I thought was going to be a really fresh episode.

Yarp - agreements here.

However - there were (as has always been the case this season) plenty of GREAT one-liners, and I always likes me some Missy. That Nardol dude was good too.

Also liked the shiny hands bit - I was thinking "surely they're not going to . . . . " - and - well - you know

Yeah, Nardole was great this week. I also got a grin out of the Magpie Electrical cameo.

Again, I loved the episode. Especially the scenes with Missy. Please God, let them give her a spin off show.

Yeah, she didn't get nearly enough screen time. I'm curious what's in store for her given something that's going to happen later in the season. (Trying to stay spoiler free.)

Looking forward to the time I can order the dvd set and watch the full season. I have the Doctor Mysterio special and enjoyed that one.

Missy and the version(s) of the Doctor who came immediately before her just don't seem to be the Master to me. Suitably evil, as the Master progressed throughout the years. But then to have the Master/Missy be in some sort of love with the Doctor, that really threw me off. Had it been Missy first, all those years ago, and then the Delgado/Ainsley (hopefully spelled correctly) tag team Masters, then it ... no, I guess not. I liked the originals too much but gradually grew to hate the Master as he gradually grew more evil.

I still don't like any of the Master actors after the first two who looked alike. And it actually took me a couple of years to figure out that there were two different actors in the role. Comes from watching the old episodes out of original order when they were broadcast here in the 1980's by popularity of Doctor, and then eventually getting around to all the Doctors. I kept wanting to see what happened to make the 'current' Doctor regenerate. Took a few years but finally found out.

Happy to have finally bought a full set from the beginning a few years ago (and getting reconstructions of all 'missing' episodes at the time to make as complete a set as possible) and then made and kept recordings off the tv of the very newest ones. Then finally being able to buy sets of the most recent broadcast Doctors after I could not afford to get BBCA any more and had to wait for release to disk.

Now we all know that Eric Roberts was the best Master.

Since the Master first appeared there have been many "just get a room" moments between him and the Doctor.

S10E09 - "Empress of Mars".

What can you say - an episode praising time travelling killer robots, showcasing Yautja hairstyes, AND mentioning other "things" HAS to have something going for it

It was, yet again, an episode of 2 'alves, Harry.

. . . and now NEXT weeks is borrowing from "Outlander". Looking forward to it :)

Really wish the Doctor had been given a throw away line like... "Don't go near the water."
