While not an action-packed episode, it was EXCELLENT in setting up the character arcs for the rest of this season - I'm sure there's a few surprises and shockers in store, but for now, the major pieces are either in place, or moving towards their "endgame" positions. And as in chess, a major piece or two will need to be sacrificed for the victory...

I think I've just grown numb to it all. I was literally rolling my eye at both Arya scenes and Sansa's. The story arc's have been being set up for like 7 seasons now. I'm at the point where I just want them to bring on the Night King and the war... but D & D will likely focus on the drama between Jon trying to come into his own and Arya still running around like a terminator, Danearys still freeing slaves, etc, etc, when they do get to the war. Which is it cool because that's exactly what Martin would do in the books if he ever finishes them.

Also I have a sneaking suspicion the ending of GOT is going to pull something similar to the Sopranos.

With my rant out of the way, I will faithfully watch it every Sunday, and hope for the best with it, because I've been with it since the start.

I can see it now.

Jon and Sam in a dimly lit tavern, quietly sipping on ales.

Meanwhile, a minstrel band begins to play -

"Don't Stop Believing"....

As the screen fades to black.

Series over.

I DO hope you're wrong....

LOL.

Have to say, I think S07E01 was the weakest episode released in the shows history. As Joe said, it was more of a "moving chess pieces" sort of thang.

Having said that, I still enjoyed it - especially the scenes with the hound in. Some actors just OWN the screen.

Lol. Believe me, I hope I'm wrong as well. I'd hate to think we all sat through seven years of this just to have no closure.

I disagree.
I found the episode to be pretty much what I expected.
Every season opening episode is like this. Dealing with the repercussions of all the excitement at the end of the season. They go through, and touch base with most of the surviving characters and/or story arcs just to get people back up to speed and to get everything moving to where it needs to be next.
Honestly, I was surprised the fleet actually made landfall already.
Figured they would drag that out a bit.

And I was just so happy with the way the episode opened.
I have loved Arya since the first season, and am stoked to finally see her potential being realized.

(is anyone else hoping in the end it is her and Gendry left sitting on the throne?)

Thats' OK - you're allowed to disagree (you're also allowed to be wrong, and to have low expectations  :) )

Seems there's a few "Arya" fans wanting to see her on the throne (GOT version not UK slang version) - I'd like it to be Samwell Tarly OR the Hound - but we'll see.

I don't think either of them would want it.
Sam especially, wouldn't have any desire to be in charge. He just wants to be left alone with the family.
The Hound is just fed up with people. He really doesn't want to deal with them anymore.
Besides, I am betting that he and his brother kill each other in combat.

Agreed... we're heading for a Mountain/Hound showdown.
That is after the Hound and Arya team up :D
My two cents: Daenerys and Jon Snow are the are the Fire and Ice of this epic story.
They're both members of the Targaryen family and will end up taking back the Iron throne.

Agree on the showdown - it HAS to happen!

. . . also agree on the "unlikely" for my preferences - but they are still the ones I'd LIKE to "get it" :)

Except for the dragon masterbators those guys never stop.
Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?

I want to see it, but it doesn't look like it will happen soon.
They are heading in opposite directions. She is going south, and he is going north, so they are getting further apart.

Looks like she may be reuniting with an old friend in the previews though!

Just 10 minutes in and I realised this was back into usual "GOT premier league" territory - plenty of fave characters returning to the fold :hot:

Blimmin' AWESOME! :bgrin:
