Okay it looks cool, but i kept thinking alien nation with magic.
Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?
Lord, what fools these mortals be! -Puck

Surprised no one is talking about this one yet.
Lots of posts about it on FB after it was released.

I finally had a chance to sit down and watch it on Saturday.

Really good movie.
And I mean really good.
Borderline great.
  • Some great characters. Decently fleshed out. Not enough to really get attached to any of them, but you do root for the good guys in the end.
  • Some great action sequences.
  • A pretty by-the-numbers plot. Anyone who knows anything about action movies could probably guess the progression of the plot ahead of time. But I'm glad they didn't try to get too cute with it, or go for a big twist.
  • Will Smith. You know what you are going to get here.
  • The story was good though. Interesting take on the idea.
I enjoyed the hell out of it. It was a nice fantasy action movie, with great production values.
There were some funny lines, some touching moments, and a few things blow up or get shot up.
For those who may want to watch with younger viewers, it isn't particularly bloody. There are a few throat slittings and people getting shot. But it isn't really graphic, or over-the-top. The language though may have you wanting to watch after the little ones go to bed.

They already announced a sequel will be coming, and I plan on watching that too.

I watched about 2/3 before giving up. I expected a bit more fantasy and a lot less cop procedural/action. I really didn't care about any of the characters either.

I'm not saying it was bad, just that it wasn't my cup of tea. I was hoping for something a bit more akin to the _Once_ TV series crossed with _Supernatural_...or something. It's really more like a fantasy version of _Alien_Nation_.

It's extraordinarily unusual for me to not watch a movie - no matter how bad (recently watched Doc Savage for crying out loud) all the way through - and I bailed on Bright at the mid-way point.

Enjoyable enough but pretty formulaic and nothing special or particularly memorable about it.

Glad they have greenlit a follow-up though - I'll watch that too.

All the cursing turned me off. I also bailed halfway through the first ep.

This. Very disappointing that this was only a lukewarm re-skinning of Alien Nation. It could and should have been so much more given how little progress we've made as a society since that movie came out. TOS Star Trek showed us how the genre can cast a spotlight on societal ills. Now what do we get? I guess Black Mirror, Get Out... Slim pickings.

It's a movie, not a series.

Which I am glad of. If it were a series I wouldn't be too happy.
As a movie, I found it intriguing and enjoyable.
