The boys from the dwarf are back!!!

#1 Post by LOBOREX »

Red Dwarf Season 12. Laughed my ass off with the first episode. Guitar duet of the century. :rolf: :rolf: :rolf: :rolf:
Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?
Lord, what fools these mortals be! -Puck

PS: Have to say - besides the opening 7 minutes (which had some good laugh-out-loud moments) - I thought this was terrible. Embarrassing in fact.

blaspheme!!! burn the witch!! burn the witch!! lol Sorry but the guitar duet had me almost wetting myself. And even bad red dwarf is better than 90% of the so called comedy on tv.

 We had similar exchanges for season XI :) - http://theclubhouse1.net/phpBB3/viewtop ... 3&t=114833

I'm thinking that Naylor took too much on for these 2 seasons (filmed back-to-back).

He still has brilliant ideas which shine through on occasion, but the scripts were mostly lacking in Season XI, and THIS initial episode from season XII suffered in the same way.

The direction scrapes by, but once combined with the non-funny (cringeworthy) script/jokes, he really lets down a group of actors that could easily LIVE their roles because they know them so well.

The kernel of genius is always there, but then it's surrounded by so much dross that it leaves you feeling deflated. That guitar duet WOULD have been funny if it didn't go on for so long.

The fault is all Naylor's I'm afraid.

I'll accept the 20% that IS "expected quality" Dwarf though

I have to admit i am waaay more forgiving of this shows shortcomings than i would be of other shows. This show has made me laugh man and boy for more years than i care to admit to. At this point in my life they are like seeing old girlfriends you used to love, i see past the wrinkles and sag and just remember that old spark.

Agree. Presently working thru all the LEXX seasons (on the final season now)
and it makes me miss 'da boys' w/ each LEXX ep I watch.

Unfortunately, Netflix stopped carrying RD at season 9 and keep hoping to
see it reappear!

S XII - E02 - "Siliconia"

Some very clever ideas - MUCH MUCH better than last weeks.
  • (* was even better once that ****ing annoying laugh track died down about 15 mins in !!!!!!! *)
That "line following" scene with Rimmer & Kryten in the corridor was awful though - totally unfunny & major cringeworthy.

Totally with you on that, but Rimmer was so good at aping kryten it almost made up for it. :rolf:

Yeah - amazing stuff.

We all know Chris Barrie can do great voices/characters but that was special.

It comes out on disk on Amazon November 21, 2017 so sometime after that I'll be able to see it. The newest Doctor Who Christmas special seems like it is going to be horribly overpriced though......

Lexx has got to be one of the most inventive and underrated shows ever.

IMHO, seasons 1 & 2 were basically the same plot over & over again..
"I'm horny... find a planet w/ sex... oh oh trouble!"

Season 3 moved to a continuing plot line throughout and was probably
the best of the 4.

Think I'm on ep 13 of season 4 and slowly plowing through it.

On the up side... those lips on Zev are to DIE for!!! and I do enjoy
Kai's character. (and the Lexx itself is a beautiful piece of engineering)

...and to bring this back on topic...
Feel the writing on RD is just superior! You never know what you're gonna
get wk to wk!

S XII - E03 - "Timewave"

Genius idea for the main premise (banning criticism), and the best one so far this season - especially because the BULK of the laughter was real audience reaction and NOT the terrible "CANNED" crap inserted by the smeg-head editing the last few.

Funniest moments for me were the reversing mechanoid and the start of the Johnny Vegas cop "pullover" in the corridor - superb!

He also sounded a lot like the guy who played "Talkie Toaster" way-back-when . . . (ah - CLASSIC DWARF memories).

Some bits didn't work, but an audible sigh of relief was still heard in these-here-parts after watching.

It ended abruptly though - that's been a trend in the last 2 seasons - bit disconcerting & annoying.

Loved the johnny vegas bit, big fan of his ideal show from several years back. And your right about the endings, they have been rather abrupt.

S XII - E04 - "Mechocracy"

Yet more clever ideas (the election - SO well done - and some great analogies to real political campaigns), but the only true laugh-out-loud moment I can remember in this one was when our fave preoccupied mechanical arrived on the scene :D

Well - that and the "Yellow alert" related stuff

S XII - E05 - "M-Corp"

Now THAT was Red Dwarf :D :D :D

An ALMOST perfect episode. First 19 minutes WERE perfect - laughs every 5-10 seconds. Dwarf at its best Image

The last 8 mins not so good - but still - easily the best episode from the last 2 seasons =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

Just 1 episode left (bummer!) :(

Okay got caught up, totally spot on red dwarf. Both episodes made me lol and your right spike "M-Corp" was great and the stronger of the recent episodes but the return of a certain diminutive talkative fellow made me almost squeal like a little kid. :rolf: :rolf: :rolf: :rolf:
