Rather than post a long list, I'll just say that I prefer classic horror movies for Halloween. And by "classic" I mean pretty much anything produced before 1969 (that way I can include George Romero's Night of the Living Dead ). The only exception would be Dracula (1931), which in my opinion is quite boring.
The older I get, the better it was.

I try to make a point of watching Sleepy Hollow at this time of year.
Great atmosphere, Danny Elfman music, Ray Park as the Headless Horseman, Johnny Depp, Christopher Walken, Christopher Lee... what's not to like?
I'll also make a point of catching The Univited on TCM later this month. Great ghost story with Ray Milland and Alan Napier (Alfred from the Batman TV show). Haven't seen it in years.

For Halloween I like the comic takes on horror films, preferably the Classic Three Stooges old dark house parodies and the "Abott and Costello meet (fill in monster)" series.

I like some comedy too. Which is why I gravitate towards movies like
The Raven
Comedy of Terrors
Tales of Terror
Zombieland

Then I have a few halloween episodes of stuff like The Muppet Show, Paul Lynde Halloween Special, Alice Cooper: The Nightmare (still trying to get the Ghostbusters series set :( )

Then of course I have to do at least a few episodes of the Nightstalker

Dog Soldiers
Evil Dead
The Fog
Cabin in the Woods (this became an instant classic for me as soon as I saw it)
A random vampire movie (depends on mood, which one)
A random zombie movie (depends on mood, which one).

The rest is usually, whatever I stumble across on cable.

This year I would like to see movies I have missed over the last 30 years.
Any recommends?
Scarecrows sound cool...got it on my radar now.
I have Trick or Treat.....something not too Slasher...more scarey?

Always love to see the classics come out of their tombs this time of year! Also love the weird little gems that pop up like Cat People, Carnival of Souls, Haxan, and like offbeat horror.

Of course, for me it's not Halloween without a big dish of delicious Hammer Horror! My Mrs. loves the ghost tales like The Innocents and The Haunting.

No Jason, Chucky or Freddy in the Jackson House of Horror!!

"Simply Put"

Just about everything from the classic Horror & Sci-Fi era starting in 1910 - thru 1970's. Only some of the newer movies after the 70's.
(Back in the days when acting made the movie without all the computer generated cartoon horror like the stuff that is shown on the Syfy Channel daily!)

I remember when you told us about that happening... I'm sure you miss him still. :(

Yep, Fred Gywnne is the best thing about that first movie... Great actor.

In no particular order of preference...

The Abominable Dr. Phibes
Dr. Phibes Rises Again
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad
Jason and the Argonauts
King Kong (the original 1933 version)
House of Wax (in 3D!)
Creature from the Black Lagoon (again, in 3D!)
The Hound of the Baskervilles (1939 version with Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes)
The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959 Hammer version with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee)
House of Frankenstein
House of Dracula
The Mummy's Hand
Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight
The Curse of Frankenstein
Horror of Dracula
Island of Lost Souls
The Blob (both the original and the remake)
Frankenweenie
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein

That's what I can think of off the top of my head; if I sat and thought for a while, I could add a lot more! ;)
