Thoughts on Batman TV series: DVD or BluRay?

#1 Post by Otto69 »

It's finally coming out in about 2 weeks. The DVD set is a lot cheaper than the BluRay. I've seen some BluRay releases of vintage movies that weren't very impressive. Any thoughts on which to buy?

The BluRay will have higher resolution but the aspect ratio will still be 4x3, which is the aspect it was shot in. If it's done anamorphic, it will probably look a little off.

The big question I have is, will the hugher resolution make the iriginal film look grainy.

Just saw this on the WB site.

Is Classic Batman Collection available in Blu-Ray™?
No, unfortunately it is not but the Complete Classic Batman Collection is available on either DVD or Blu-Ray. This collection includes all 120 episodes of the series.

So, I guess it's not available in HD. :(

I saw the presentation for this new Blu-ray set at the last SDCC, and was wholly impressed by the quality of the remaster. Going in, I really thought, "Heck, in LA, they're broadcasting Batman over-the-air, I've got a DVR, what do I need this set for?" But after seeing them side-by-side, I would definitely spring for the Blu-ray set which includes Digital HD viewing, too.

Didn't see graininess, but then, everyone's displays can be differently calibrated according to their preferences. On my display, for console gaming, I turn up the gamma and brightness, so I can more easily pick out details and other players trying to hide in the dark corners. For movie watching, there's a "Movie" setting on my TV that softens and smooths everything a little bit that I prefer sometimes.
