Luke Cage on Netflix (bless 'em)

#1 Post by Heavy Metal Spike »

Surprised there's no thread on here for this. Let's put that right shall we :D

Only 22 days to go (all 13 episodes released September 30th).

After 2 SUPERB seasons of Daredevil and 1 AMAZING season of Jessica Jones - I'm SOOOOOO looking forward to this.

The reviews that are trickling in are VERY positive.

Looking forward to this. Knew practically nothing about him before Jessica Jones but liked the character there. Then read all theJessica Jones comics and he features in alot of them.

Jessica Jones didn't like that he dated She-Hulk.

I suspect there were several "green with envy" observations about this (not that I would ever stoop so low).

Four days to go . . .

Funny you should post that Gluey - I just finished episode 4 :D

I'm not going to post any spoilers.

Suffice it to say that (so far) it's been a slow-burning build, but the acting/direction/scripts are on a par with the 2 Daredevil series and Jessica.

Looking forward to the next 9.

Really the early 70's was when things got REAL! TV and comics both. Luke Cage was the ultimate bad-ass super hero in that Marvel age. And now Misty Knight is on board! I know its 40+ years later but I hope there will be some reference to the original outfit like the chain belt and gauntlets. I'd even go for the tiara also. :P
This is good stuff! 8)

I've watched the first two episode so far. I'm in awe of the series. I think it's better than any comparable series in terms of characters and story telling. Better than Arrow, Jessica Jones, or Gotham.

I bailed on Arrow and the Flash, Too many archers and speedsters. Gotham still looking good. But THIS show tops the binge-watch list until the Walking Dead......

Now we got Black Mariah! 8) Not posting that one. You can do that math.........

Got to the end.

I'd position the 4 series as follows . . .
  • • Daredevil 2 & Jessica Jones tied for 1st place.
    • Daredevil 1
    • Luke Cage
Not that it was bad – FAR from it – but the others are just so much better.

Still – “UPS ain’t the only brown that delivers” :)

As mentioned above by Otto & Gluey, it's way WAY better than any of the current TV series available - stopped watching Flash & Arrow & Legends Of Tomorrow as they got boring and repetitive, have just about given up on Gotham as this season has REALLY gone downhill (can't stand that Vale character or "actress"), and S.H.I.E.L.D. has pissed me off with their version of Ghost Rider (a CAR - really? - it was a dumb idea in the comics and isn't any better here) so I'm likely dumping that too.

Few scattered thoughts below (obscured for those that don’t want spoilers):

  • 1. Loved the intro music (reminded me of the 70’s & the original Shaft movie), along with MOST of the music throughout.

    2. Unlike Jessica Jones that started slow until the end of episode 2 but then REALLY REALLY grabbed hold of you, this started slow, and pretty much stayed that way (although it started to pick up at the end of episode 7).

    3. Mahershala Ali (Cottonmouth) kept reminding me of Louis Gossett Jr. (in a good way), Mike Colter (Luke Cage) was perfect, as was Simone Missick (wow!) as Misty Knight.

    4. Theo Rossi just didn’t convince as “shades” though. Kept thinking of his whiny bits from Sons Of Anarchy.

    5. Acting & directing overall was superb – as it has been for all 4 of these Netflix series.

    6. Episode 10 was so determined to break basic science & engineering facts that I wouldn’t know where to start.

    7. Plenty of little “easter eggs” scattered about that made me smile, and a couple of bit of praise for a real life rapist that had the opposite effect.

Basically – well worth watching end-to-end, but I’m not sure if I’ll ever go back and watch it again (which I HAVE done with the other 3).

YMMV.

Finished the series the other night. Enjoyed it.

Agree with those who mentioned slow plot. (Ep 4 did get a LOL though)

Liked the easter egg of the karate ad on the telephone pole that Claire
tears off. Was wondering if she would/will make an appearance!

The acid bath ep was a little over the top... but turn the mind off and just
went w/ the flow!

Overall, enjoyed it!

Just finished this ep. During the acid bath scene Dr. Noah looks remarkably like Dr. Deadly from the "Monster Scenes" . Coincidence? :?

Cant find a pic but how bizzare............

Off-topic, but since my ORIGINAL post was in this thread . . .

Stuck with Gotham and it got much better, and also stuck with S.H.I.E.L.D. - thank goodness - because the writing & acting is cool, and I've grown to like what they've done with car-version of Ghost Rider.

Case in point - clip from tomorrow's episode - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75tObt8V8HE :D

I agree, gotham's a lot better this season (so far). I was ready to quit, had the first 3 episodes on the PVR unwatched and considered deleting them. Finally watched them and I gotta say I'm liking this version of Mad Hatter. If Fish Mooney becomes a big part of the show again I might quit then (hate the character, hate the actress)

As for Luke Cage. I only got to episode 6. Can't get into it. Keep meaning to finish watching it but just don't care enough to make it a priority.
