Doctor (Jodie) Who with spoilers.

#1 Post by XOFACTO2 »

I don't know about you, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think Jodie is going to make a great new Doctor. A couple of plot flaws but nothing that can't be overlooked. Was sad about Grace. Really liked her character and was hoping she'd be part of the team.

Instantly impressed... much better than the last two!! Think she'll be
as popular as Tennant is.

I thought Grace's death was unneeded... 1) we didn't have long to
get to know the character, therefore 2) her dying really didn't matter
(on an emotional level) all that much.

I did realize why I liked to watch this show IN the UK... no bloody
commercials!! Gawd, just as you're getting into the show...pow! another
break. (and those terrible NYCC panel sessions full of fake asshats moving
their mouths far too long didn't help!) thank gawd for mute!

Yeah. Grace was the only really harsh note in the episode. I really liked her and was hoping she'd be part of the team. I kept expecting that little bit of regeneration energy to show up and save the day. But no such luck. Although I suppose that might have been a little corny.

Although that does pose another question. What happened to that tiny bit of regeneration energy. It may mean something in a future episode.

Apparently Grace does appear again at some point in the season. I liked Whitaker. The performances were all very solid, and the episode looked good. Plot was ho-hum, but I didn't expect much more than character development in the first outing. I hope she becomes the "tinkerer" Doctor.

Interesting episode but though I really wanted to like the new Doctor she came off a bit too much like she was doing an impression of Matt Smith.

I'm sure she will find her own style soon enough, but she needs to stop talking so fast. It worked for Smith but not so well for her. Too frenetic.

.

Can't accept this excuse for entertainment when there are so many other quality sci-fi shows out there.

Got through 2 episodes – but that’s it – I’m out.
  • • That’s 2 more than the Wife who refused to watch it because she finds Jodie Whittaker so annoying.
    • I thought she was OK – the co-best thing about this farce (along with Bradley Walsh) - once you get past the Def Leppard accent and if you squint to avoid the clown trousers.
    • The Son is undecided – says he’ll give it ONE more episode.
    • The Daughter lost interest some time back.
    • My Sister only really liked Baker.
    • My Mom & Dad only watched it from the kitchen when I was hiding behind the sofa during Pertwee & Baker’s incarnations.
So – they have 1 more episode to convince the sole remaining interested party in the Campbell clan (unless some of my other relatives are about to come out of the closet).

Still – should be another regeneration in 3-5 years time. I’ll pop back then.

LOL when I read the "squint to avoid the clown trousers."

What he said!!! Caught ep 2 last night...missed it last Sunday
and gawd, does BBC America NOT like to rerun these!! What's up
w/ that... don't even have a 'on demand' chnl to catch up on um!
Sheesh!!

Thought the story was once again, over preachy. Much more than
last week. We get it...global warming... (it's still a hoax no matter
how many different ways you pound that msg in to us to believe
otherwise! Give it a rest already!!)

Also found some bits hard to follow... their volume control is horrendous!
Turn it up and then some SFX sounds blast out...turn it down and whaaa?
(son sez, turn on closed caption, ya deaf bastard!!) Shuttup you!!

I'll keep watching... still kinda like her.

I don't think the point of the episode was to focus on "racism in America," but rather racism and colonialism more globally - that was pretty clear from the companion discussions around how they are treated and perceived in the UK. It just so happens that American civil rights history is a deeper well for dramatization. I thought it was a great episode, generally well acted (particularly the supporting cast), and very moving. While the baddie was a bit two-dimensional, I was left with a greater sense of unease with his departure than most other antagonists in the series. I expect and fear that we'll see him again.

Also, it was nice to see an episode that harkened back to the original intent of the series as envisioned by Verity Lambert, et. al.

Britain and France managed to keep their slaves hidden from public view working them to death on tropical island colonies rather than amongst the regular population.

Interestingly from shortly after the Civil War onwards there were far more KKK members in Northern states than in the deep south.

I liked the second episode quite a lot. Unless earth is being ruled by shadowy alien war mongers, not that unlikely when you think on it, then there's not much of a parallel with present climate change theories.

I like the introduction of adventurous characters like the two racers.

that last one was really poorly written! and although I liked
the new doctor... in that ep she was over acting way to much
and seems to be trying to hard.. cuz she was really annoying.

Just feel that 1 hr isn't enuff time to develop a good story...
why not go back to 2 parters?

The nightmare (well - THIS nightmare) is ALMOST over . . . https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-57940451

Good riddance to bad rubbish (Chinballs & Whittaker).

I'm REALLY pleased they are going (I stopped watching after 2 episodes of their 1st season) but don't hold out any hope myself that things will be fixed after their exit . . . the Beeb are not self-aware enough these days to be able to fix things.

I haven't seen any episodes with her.
Not that I have a problem with a female Doctor, I just haven't been interested.
I loved Capaldi in the role, but they never gave many good scripts to work with, so I was upset with the missed opportunities there.
I was still gonna give the new Doctor a chance, but for some reason I never managed to catch it while it was airing. And with all the complaints I was hearing it seemed that the show runner had gone even further in the direction of mediocrity. So I never put in the effort to track down any eps to watch.

So, hearing the show runner is gonna change gives me some hope.
