Haunting of Hill House (Netflix)

#1 Post by Buc Wheat »

Wow! Superb writing, acting, suspense... up to ep5!

You guys watching this??! I know I have a warm spot for
the original movie...and it really doesn't compare at all, but
it's still really good!

It's on my to do list. Wife and daughter have been watching it and they've been enjoying it.
Apparently there are ghosts in the background in every episode. They don't make it obvious, you really have to look for them.

Agreed. This is a really good show. Lots of nods to the original movie. Also nods to Poltergeist and The Legend of Hell House. It truly has some scary moments. Made me yell out in complete surprise once. Also, watch the statues. Sometimes they move. Lot's of creepy stuff goes on in the background. I'm up to episode seven. Very scary show.

Coolest lines from a Ghost Story
"No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone."

WARNING FOR SPOILERS.

An interesting article about all the ghosts that appear on the show.

This is really exceptional and works on many levels - like how families become 'haunted' by personal tragedy. It's so good to find a horror film that's genuinely disturbing at last. Superb camerawork and editing get the credit for that.

It is challenging in the sense that the story structure is complex - it fits together gradually like a puzzle - but that makes it more rewarding in my book. Episode 5 is particularly effective so stick with it at least until then.
