From what I've read, HBO was willing to pony up the resources for another 2 seasons, but D&D and the actors didn't want to make that commitment. Hence, tie it all up in Season 8 and call it a wrap. Maybe it's better to go out big, than let it drag on 2 more seasons with a lesser effort (ala TWD)?

That's actually Euron Greyjoy's hand. He wasn't quite dead and dragged himself along behind Jaime, then reached up from the floor to give Cerse one last pat on the bottom.
2nd time I've heard something about Jaime's right hand... rewatched it last
night keeping close attention to whenever Jaimie and Cerse were hugging and
EVERY shot I saw of the right hand was the gold one.

So not sure when this 'regrowth' shows up?

When they embrace you can just see the fingers of Jamie's right hand behind her back.

The fingers only show in the screen cap used as a promotional still. In the show the scene is cropped and doesn't show their lower torso as much.
I suspect that knowing it wouldn't normally show up they got in a rush and forgot to have him put on the glove.

I started rewatching the series yesterday... funny how young
they all were in season 1!!! And amazed how much was told just
in episode 1!!

In fact, with all my thoughts that they crammed alot into this season,
I'm on ep 9 of season 1 and they really covered ALOT that I thought
previously had been told over multiple seasons!! (great getting old, ain't it!!) lol

But mainly doing it bcuz of the vast characters and not adequately following
all the lineages clearly. It's pretty cool seeing bits and pieces that have more
impact now that you know future events!

In response to the petitioners:

From CNN:

According to HBO (which is owned by CNN's parent company), Season 8 of the series is averaging 43 million viewers per episode in gross audience, an increase of more than ten million viewers compared to Season 7.
"Game of Thrones" penultimate episode, titled "The Bells," which Sunday, was watched by a record 18.4 million viewers across all of HBO's platforms.

They might not like it but they're eating it up like never before.
And to those petitioners, I introduce William Shatner:

They can want what they want, it isn't going to happen.
The actors contracts are done.

Yes, I have issues with the last few seasons, but I would never dream of them changing things to suit my whims, even if I have valid complaints.

Speaking of which, I think this video sums up nicely some of the issues I have been talking about.

Tried watching - it was all a bit highbrow, fluffy and hoity-toity for me - I got bored, then annoyed with his delivery, and stopped after a few minutes.

He should have used a script from George R. R. Martin . . . Image

They will probably market a revamped season 8 DVD set with 2 hour episodes, and a couple of extra complete eps made up of deleted scenes and a few reshot scenes. More action could be supplied by re editing some un used battle scene footage from previous episodes.

It's just a pity that a show that was so good for so long is going to end with a very large portion of it's audience feeling cheated. It doesn't bode well for the prequel series they have in the works. I know the circumstances are different, but it reminds me of how I felt when they pulled the plug on Deadwood.

Basically, the gist of it was that the last couple seasons we have lost the politics, we don't have the conflict. It used to be, that everyone was maneuvering. Words and actions had repercussions or pay-offs. They had meaning. They progressed the story.
Now we get a lot of scenes that carry little weight. They don't really affect the story, or what comes next.
Opening scene of the season, we get Tyrion and Varays riding in the carriage. 2 of the characters that used to have the cleverest minds and interesting interactions. But what do we get? Dick and dwarf jokes.
And when we do get scenes with some meat on them, they cut them short. They cut away to another scene without following through.
Jon and Sam in the crypt, Sam asks Jon if Dani would give up her title to save her people, they cut away.
Sansa and Tyrion talking about how smart she has gotten, and she talking about how stupid he has become. Instead of following that up with Tyrion justifying his thoughts or sticking up for himself, it just cuts away.

We used to get insight to character motivations. One of the things that drew us in was the intrigue. Who was plotting against whom? What were people planning? Watching it play out was what sucked us in.

Being greatly impressed with George R.R. Martin's Nightflyers series I thought I would give Game Of Thrones final season a try. I was not impressed and soon gave up after a few episodes. Too pretentious, ponderous, and superficial. Even good scenes were spoiled by shameless, anachronistic product placement. A re-edited, re-dubbed version by Mel Brooks might be entertaining.

Well.....
That may have been one of the least satisfying endings of any series I've watched in a long time.
At least it didn't cut to black while Journey was playing "Don't Stop Believin'..."

Yarp - decidedly "meh".

I thought SEQUELS were supposed to be off the table . . . they did a damn good job of laying the foundations for them! Always keep your options open I guess.

I think the only "guess" I got right was the iron throne being melted by Drogon - and a near-miss if they had listened to Samwell

Arguably the best series on TV ever, and the entire season takes us out with a whimper. It deserved better. Shame (no pun intended - well - maybe a bit).

I've not read any of the books - but if Mr. Martin ever finishes HIS version - I'd read it if it makes a better job of tying up the story. It couldn't do any worse (YMMV).

I was COMPLETELY satisfied with the ending. One of the many. It's done. Time work on other stuff. Life goes on.
