Last night I re-watched Cool Hand Luke on Netflix. It's not just a movie, it's a film. So beautifully crafted with the cinematography, the lighting, the dialog and characters. Did my heart good to see it again.

Well, the first half of that rant was completely useless for me.
I don't listen to 'pop' music, and never have. It's always been drivel.
Rock music is still great. Most artists still write all their own material, and still lots of good new stuff coming out.
I still have tons of TV shows to watch. And there are still good new shows coming out. Legacies was great in it's first season. So was The Passage. The Orville is doing great in it's 2nd season.
I can't wait for season 4 pf Van Helsing. Game of Thrones will be wrapping up an amazing 8 season run soon.
If anything, we are suffering a glut of good-great genre shows right now. There is so much now it is almost impossible to keep up with it all.

I will agree on the movie front. There are still a few unique original gems that come out. But most of it is recycled, rebooted, or sequels. But that is because that is what the public is eating up.
There wouldn't be so many superhero movies, if they didn't rake in the money.
And I will admit, I can't wait to see Zombieland 2 and IT 2 this fall.
And I will be seeing Godzilla King of the Monsters on opening day.

Can't speak to the video games. I gave up on them after Super Nintendo because I thought the playability was suffering because the reliance on how it looked back then.

it fills my time... and if not, still have way to many books
to either read or re-read in the time I have left!

I'd say 'get a hobby' (or a dog) ... whatever.

We live a sad age.. I remember when 1990 hit I knew a change was coming..
And when internet came in the mid 90's I knew common sense was going to be
extinct... and now it is..
Big movie studios will go away as they rely on big budget movies
to sustain them.. the money will go to netflix hulu and amazon etc.
As they can make better movies at a cheaper rate.

I like the late 50's early 60's TV detective/spy/adventure series.
They knew most TV viewers didn't have the attention span for hours long stories so they packed as much story into 24-48 minutes as we get in most 3 +/- hour movies or six-12 part miniseries of recent years.

Camera work was often at a highly artistic level. The film noir vibe was strong, and many of the scenes were composed like panels from the best graphic novels. Every frame a minor masterpiece.
The Chiaroscuro effects were the best suited to the small not too clear B&W TV screens of the day.
I remember watching a episode of The Lone Ranger on my aunt's first generation TV with round screen of perhaps 8" diameter at best.

As always – our opinions are going to vary :) (* watched 1 minute of the linked vid - it annoyed me - so I just read the posts here instead *)

    • Music - the best years for me were the late 70's and ALL of the 80's - prime years for rock & metal. BUT - there's a lot of great stuff being produced NOW as well. I just ignore the crap as I always have.

Movies - there is good and bad, classics and dross, in EVERY year. Just as true today as it has always been. Plus technology (when used properly) has made things possible that couldn't have been done as well (or at all) in the past.

TV - Ditto - but I think that (if you class Netflix etc. as TV) it is MUCH better now than it has ever been.

The internet frakkin' RULES (wouldn't have this place without it!) - the interwebz machine is the best teaching & communication device ever invented. Even Facebook & Twitter have their positive uses.

Go back to your black-and-white TV set & crystal radio, with fixed showtimes and limited options if you like . . .
    • . . . I think we are lucky to be living in a time that gives us so much choice and so much quality.

Every generation grumbles that things were better in "their day". And they are right. And it doesn't matter.

And when they are gone, they are (mostly) forgotten.

I would rather be living in 1977. Or 1986. Or 1996.

But I'd REALLY rather be living in 1927.

C'est la vie....

If you can even remember the 60's you weren't partying hard enough.
