Courtesy of "high life in low places" (to turn around a "Thunder" song) we watched it earlier today. REALLY impressed.

I'm not a "DC guy" - so would have preferred a "Man-Thing" TV series.

None of us knew anything about the character - other than Marvel apparently ripped him off for "Man-Thing".

As with "Titans" and "Doom Patrol" - they have AMAZING people working on this - EVERYTHING was SO well done.

The Campbell Clan (Canadian chapter) + are eagerly awaiting episode 2.

Do yourself a favor and read the original series written by Len Wein and drawn by Berni Wrightson classic stuff also the more adult revamp of the character by Alan Moore. Both runs can probably still be found in graphic novel versions.

Earliest creature of this type I know of was the Military Comics creature "The Heap".
Great back story. The Heap had been a honorable German fighter pilot of WW1. Shot down he crashed in a bog/swamp in central Europe and over the decades his remains underwent the transformation.
When WW2 came along he instinctively sided with the locals against the NAZI invaders.

Treat for today

The work Alan Moore and a handful of spectacular artists did on Swamp Thing in the '80s is some of the best comics work ever done. Created when Moore was at his peak as a writer. If the series re-creates those stories, I'll definitely check it out sooner or later.

If we are going down the who's your daddy route, then you have to say "It" a horror short story by Theodore Sturgeon, first published in Unknown of August 1940 about a muck, swamp monster, formed around a human skeleton.

Mind Boggling how they can green light a show, then cancel it after one episode. Why bother spending all that money in the first place if you're gonna pull the plug? It's not like it was a total dud or anything, it seems like the show was pretty well received. :?

The story linked indicates problems with a promised tax break from North Carolina. I hope they try again.

Forbes suggests that the North Carolina angle is only part of the problem, and that the real deal is that Warner Bros. is going to fold DC's streaming service into its own. This is possibly the first bump in a rough transition.

Bleh. I'm starting to miss the days of "57 channels and nothin' on." I'm sticking with DVDs checked out from the library, Netflix and its challengers are more than I want to spend my life keeping track of.

I've actually been trying to find that one, but I had forgotten the title.
The creature formed around the bones of a lost hunter. The muck was from the bottom of a mountain stream rather than a swamp or bog.

Episode 2 was just as good as episode 1.

Really REALLY impressed (although it got too scary for the wee Wifey so she's out :look: )

I'm really pleased I have a new "monster" to love - but dreading the kits & collectibles I end up getting as a result #-o

James Wan reacts to Swamp Thing’s surprise cancellation - https://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/1074 ... ncellation

    • “Don’t really know or understand why #Swampthing was cancelled,” Wan wrote, “but I can tell you this — all the cast and crew, and producing/writing team poured their hearts into this.
Really proud of everyone’s hard work. Go watch episode 2, and immortalize these 10 episodes. Swampy deserves it.”

Report: The canceled Swamp Thing series had a 3-season plan - https://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/1075 ... ing-series

    • According to Business Insider, who spoke with people close to the production on the condition of anonymity, the original plan was to have Swamp Thing run for three seasons.
If it proved a hit, it would continue beyond those three seasons and possibly lead to a Justice League Dark crossover. Oh, what might have been.

An unnamed producer said that everyone involved said that the “cancellation came as a surprise, 100%. It came out of left field.”
In the wake of the sudden news, the show’s crew “walked away with the sets standing. We didn’t tear them down and go home.”

As the season progresses, my annoyance at the cancellation is not abating.

We're now up to date (E05 was last Friday) and everyone who watches with us agrees this is very VERY well done.

For ME, it's the perfect combination of spooky, gory, "monstery", mystery, suspense, darkness, violence and STORY (you know - "STORY" - that thing most regular TV shows forget).

Perfectly cast - standouts being the main bad guy, the female lead, the dude who played the Blob in the Wolverine movie and the young girl.

I also don't understand the logic of releasing this in Canada WAY after the States - just results in those with the means to get cross-border transmissions getting lots of visitors!

5 down, 5 to go, and (much like Firefly) I'm NOT going to want this to end . . . it's WAY too good.

What a monumental #$#$#$#-up on the part of politics & the studio (SMH) Image

S01E10 - "Loose Ends"

Last weeks episode held together OK, but THIS weeks REALLY showed the strain of having to end a show 3 episodes earlier than planned.

Disconnected, disjointed, badly scripted, badly acted - rushed, forced and incomplete.

Basically - it sucked - and left us with a bad taste after 9 episodes of quality.

What a waste.
