Gave myself the luxury of playing catch-up today as regards all the announcements coming out of San Diego Comic-Con (and various other sources).
I screamed out loud like an excited little girl at a couple of places in the first trailer (you'll know them when you see them!) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDitCBdSgUM
It's 2 trailers joined (could not find them separately - and this could be taken down at any time) - I'd suggest PAUSING at the 2:02 mark and letting things sink in - THEN watch the rest.
OK. I'll bite. I was a big fan of the orignal reboot (that spawned seemingly a thousand spin-offs). I'm interested. Stewart is a GREAT actor. Star Trek is COOL (when it remembers not to get too preachy).
Just posted this over on the discovery thread. I was psyched for this from the first announcement then i saw this new trailer and lost my nugget. Cannot wait.

The trailers that Mark & I linked too have been taken down (as I suspected would be the case) - but I found another one for those of you that haven't yet seen it.

It's going to be woke in a word based on what I heard ignore the next generation
really to perfect in his words forget it..
The next generation gave us hope this is just a dark universe a what if.
Nostalgia can be a bad thing, especially when you are led by it.

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to say here - care to elaborate?
Patrick Stewart's given one or more interviews in which he shares his political opinions and states that the show will represent the Federation as more isolationist, less optimistic. Meanwhile, executive producer Avika Goldsman has said Picard will be so different that it's not really a Next Generation sequel.
I don't have links handy but found the stories easily by searching "Picard" on Google News.
My own reactions:
1. Gene Roddenberry was a hack, but he was very right to insist on an optimistic future in which people in the Federation get along. Giving us a future to look forward to was one of Trek's greatest strengths. There are plenty of dark visions of the future, I consider it lazy to turn Trek that way as well.
2. Goldsman is full of crap. We're getting Data, Riker, Troi and Seven of Nine in the new series, and I'll bet a nickel Worf will show up as soon as they can persuade Michael Dorn to put on the makeup again. The only people interested in seeing this show are already Next Generation fans and Paramount wants to make money off this, so the fans will get to see what they want.
Guys a moron, straight up has not seen it but it's awful. Everything about the original Kirk trek and all the shows that followed tackled social political problems of the time. Problems of race, sex, money etc etc.. The only soulless parts of trek have been the movie remakes where it was all style over substance. If you do not want to think or use some empathy their are plenty of other sci fi franchises that have lots of shiny lights and things to hold your attention.
