Just a trailer.

interesting to read.

  • . . . or - my own personal favourite - "Sarcasm Suggests Mockery" . . . :)
Here's some explanation & a trailer though - looks good! (I like the tripod design)
A 3-part adaptation, set in Edwardian England, and expected to premiere in the UK late 2019.

Thanks to all of you for the info! It looks close to the novel and I won't want to miss it.

So much for following the book. Another "woke" version of a classic. H.G. is spinning in his grave. Don't get me wrong, I admire a strong female heroin lead in a film, but not an obvious male lead ditched for the hope of ratings. I might watch it further just for the Martian destruction.

Thanks for the reminder Steve - I'd forgotten about this.

This review agrees with you - https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-ente ... 02956.html

Hmmmm - maybe I'll watch, maybe I won't. I know the latest Dr. Who bugged the hell out us (so we stopped watching) and we used to LOVE that.

sad. Just read BBC is doing Pratchett's "The Watch" and casted a woman
to play Lord Vetinari. Sheesh!

Still hoping to see if it shows up on BBC America.

There's no substitute for the ORIGINAL George Pal "War of The Worlds" movie from 1953 ... I've got one resin light-up kit of a martian war machine to build, and another HUGE kit where the (even LARGER) war machine is coming over a burned out building to build ... and OF COURSE, the Laudati kit of the Harryhausen alien coming out of the war machine ... let not forget THAT one!!! 8)

... no deadline, but its gonna happen ... just a few other things to do first ...

Love the Pal version as well...but was always fan of a tri-pod! So
I'd have to say my favorite would probably be the double record version
of Jeff Wayne's.

My favorite tripod has GOT to be the one Roger Dean (of YES albums fame) designed in the art book "Magnetic Storm". Totally alien and formidable. Someone scratchbuilt a version for the IPMS nats several years back that I LOVED. Second place is Speilberg's movie version.

But I AM intrigued about seeing this. Hope it comes on Netflix. Or Hulu...

The Tripods are fine but the book's description of the Handling machine is fantastic. A much more refined machine that the war machines. Never seen anyone attempt to make a model of it.

Episode 1

      • Image

Took us a week to get around to it, but glad we did watch.

Lot's of stuff the BBC drama dept. is good at - period drama, great sets, beautiful cinematography, believable actors etc., with a nice bit of quality special effects added as icing.

Seemed a bit slow in places, and there was an embarrassing amount of "Doctor Who" balsa wood & polystyrene at one point towards the end  - but well worth the watch.

Episode 2 goes out tomorrow (today if you are in the UK :) ).
