The Irishman

#1 Post by Buc Wheat »

When I first heard about this, I thought, "Kool... a movie about the Irish mob!!"
Maybe it'll take place in Boston around our old haunts!!

Then I kept seeing posters of Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and thought,
"Damn, Martin... couldn't ya find any Irish actors?! Looks like a Goodfella's reunion
there!"

Watched it last night on Netflix. ahhhhhhh... Frank 'The Irishman' Sheeran!
Ok...get it now! :)

Enjoyed it!

Finally got a chance to watch, liked it. The special effects were great but you got these guys with younger looking faces still moving like really old men. The scene of deniro giving the guy an ass beating on the street comes to mind. :D
Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?
Lord, what fools these mortals be! -Puck

there's a behind the scenes feature now on netflix w/ the 4 of them
talking about making 'The Irishman' and Martin talks at length on the
aspects of how to move as a younger man and how that worried him
throughout filming.

Watched it last night. Liked it, didn't love it. De Niro, Pesci, Pacino are all outstanding but I do find it interesting that De Niro and Pacino are portraying an Irishman and a German/Irish respectively while Keitel (Polish) is playing an Italian. (wouldn't be the first time - Keitel was an Italian in Scorsese's Mean Streets and De Niro was an Irishman in Goodfellas). What struck me was HOW old these actors actually are! De Niro is 76, Pesci is 76, Pacino is 79, and Keitel is 80! That considered, they all look pretty good for their age. I also noticed a certain physicality about the actor that portrayed singer Jerry Vale (at De Niro/Sheeran's testimonial dinner). Apparently, Mob guys loved Jerry Vale, and Scorsese has used his music in Goodfellas, Casino, and now The Irishman. Anyway, something seemed familiar about the actor playing the part. Turns out is none other than Little Stevie Van Zandt (The E Street Band and The Sopranos).
