Re: Dracula (netflix)
It was on BBC here over the New Year, I enjoyed it a lot. Some critics seemed a bit down on the 3rd episode, but I thought it was as good as the rest

Re: Dracula (netflix)
Have to agree w/ the critics, Kathy... hated pt 3!
Overall I liked the attributes they gave to D... esp the ability to learn and absorb
memories of those he has bitten. Loved Sister Abby!!
Didn't really understand what the volunteers (young Harker) were to be used for?
Bite donors to D? The whole Harker Institute bits were a tad rushed and not as
developed as they should have been.
And hated the ending, myself.
Overall though... enjoyed pts 1 & 2 immensely!

Re: Dracula (netflix)
Great parts one and two, epically bad ending.
Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?
Lord, what fools these mortals be! -Puck

Re: Dracula (netflix)
Episode 1- Looked very good, but HATED how he played the older Dracula! Thankfully it passed quickly to the younger version of himself and that was much better. Much like Buc, I did like the ability of Dracula to absorb the the thoughts and experiences of those he fed on. No church of the period would have tolerated nun Van Helsing, they probably would have burned her as a heretic. While I enjoyed her as a foil for Dracula especially in Episode 2, it played more as a very calculated feminist nod than a believable character in the context of the later 19th century.
Episode 2- Who thought the trip on the Demeter would be the highlight of the story? But for me, this was the best episode of the three. I enjoyed the games Dracula was playing with not only Van Helsing, but the crew and passengers onboard. Here is where Claes Bang shines as the character. Again, yet another overly modernized black gay character that would have probably risked death by even mentioning his love for another man in 1897 Transylvania, let alone flaunt it. Oscar Wilde spent time in prison, Pre-Raphaelite artist Simeon Soloman was charged for having sex with a man and was shunned for the rest of his life and these cases were in relatively liberal London.
Episode 3- This was a Stoker character name checking mess that was severely disappointing considering the promise of Episode 2. I did enjoy the fun Horror of Dracuia reference, but the end misfired in a big way.

Re: Dracula (netflix)
Dull and boring and the 3rd episode was almost unwatchable.

Re: Dracula (netflix)
I really enjoyed it; new spin on the epic story, but with clear references to the 1931 Dracula, BSD and the Horror of Dracula. And, I thought the ending made perfect sense and cemented the relationship between Dracula and Van Helsing….
