Tartakovski's "Primal" on Adult Swim

#1 Post by AntMan »

Hi,

Has anyone else been checking out Genndy Tartakovsky's new animation "Primal"? Tartakovsky is the same person who created Samurai Jack, and his newest creation has been done for Adult Swim.

The first aired episodes were only 5, appearing to compose the first season. (Actually, 6 were done - a "mysterious" one was aired on April 1, and only aired then).

Anyway, the series recently resurfaced a couple of weeks back with (the official) Episode 6. This past Sunday Episode 7 dropped.

Although only a short number of episodes have been aired, "Primal" is is very, very good! Of particular note is there is no dialogue taking place. There are grunts and screams and whimpers and other types of noises which are used to communicate. However, no talking takes place.

Often the series is very violent and very graphic, (with it seeming to reach its peak with Episode #5, "Rage of the Ape-Men"). However, in general the violence depicted isn't done gratuitously, (although "Rage of the Ape-Men" may have taken things over the edge just a bit).

I'm particularly fascinated with how Tartakovsky has been able to both tell his story, along with eliciting a full range of emotions from the viewers (once again) WITHOUT having any talking taking place.

"Primal" is aired on Adult Swim on Sunday evenings at 11:30 pm ET.

If you haven't viewed any of the episodes, give them a try. I think you'll like what you see.

I've been enjoying Primal.

I didn't think I would. When I first started watching, I thought it was kind of stupid.
But I think that was the episode with the snakes and the flood.
As I saw more, I really fell in love with it.

I catch it on Saturday night/Sunday morning after Toonami.
I DVR a big block of time then and happened to catch that. Glad I did.
If I ever get caught up on my viewing I look forward to seeing the new episodes (I'm about 4 weeks behind on my anime at this point)

They just aired once again that missing, April Fool's Day/April 1st episode: "Plague of Madness".

IT'S PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST HORROR SHOWS I'VE SEEN TO DATE!
(Notice the CAPS? It shows how excited I am with it).

I described it as a Horror Show because that's what the episode turned out to be, (even though "Primal" is more of a primeval,
fantasy/adventure series).

I'm not going to divulge anything else about the episode other than to say that Tartakovski's use of suspense in the
episode is both palpable, along with being masterfully used.

.

I got to see these thanks to a good friend of mine.

Agree with everything posted - WONDERFUL work.

Unique and captivating, with plenty of variety to keep you interested & entertained. CERTAINLY not for kids though.

Have 1 episode left to watch (S01E10 obviously), but great to hear it's been renewed for a 2nd season.

"Spear", "Fang", other characters & creatures from the series - now THERE's an idea for some new garage kits!

Hey Tay666, HMS & Buc,

Episode #10 aired a couple of weeks back. (Not sure if any of you-all had a chance to check it out).

MANNNNN! I'm still a bit torn after watching it. - :(

I'm not going to divulge anything else about the episode, other than to say I think it officially ended Season one.
(I haven't seen any new episodes since then).

Also, they ended it on such a cliff-hanger. Tartakovski really DOES have a way of telling a story, drawing his audience into
the adventures (and misadventures) of what are basically a couple of cartoon characters.

(Taylor), thanks for the heads-up on the marathon on Thanksgiving. I'll see if I can convince my son Michael to check it out then.
I've been trying to get him to tune into it for a couple of months now.

Thanks for the link Tony - interesting read.

I didn't know he was in involved in "Hotel Transylvania" - just shows everything he touches isn't golden (watched the 1st one, hated it, and can't figure out how it made money & kept going!)

It's Back!

Adult Swim started season two earlier this Summer. They just showed episode 6 this past Thursday evening.
(They are on Cartoon Network on Thursdays at midnight...Well, I guess that technically that would be Friday mornings
at midnight, right)?

Genndy Tartakovsky continues to amaze with his newest animated series.

The first season of Primal won a 2021 Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Series.

It's also being broadcast on HBO Max.

Check it out.

Yeah Taylor!

I'm fearing that they are about to get intertwined into a never ending thread of lose, pain, and revenge, repeating over and over
and over again.

Buc, Yeah, how about that! I noticed that as well! One of those episodes "definitely wasn't like the others". I'm curious how, (if at all)
it ends up tying into the rest of the episodes?

(It was almost like Tartakovski & company needed to take a break from the action, and decided to throw a different story into the mix).

Overall I'm really curious how this second season is going to end?

Holy crap !!!!!!!!

I couldn't find this available ANYWHERE in Canada so had to wait until my bud who has access to pretty much anything worldwide was available.

Just caught up on all 7 episodes so far available from season 2.

Mind-blowing - so SO good Image

I ADORE everything about this - the script, the imagination, the animation, but ESPECIALLY the art style. We can never explain why certain artists pull us in more than others (* cough, Mike Ploog, John Byrne, cough *) . . . but I love the artwork & art direction on this :cloud9:

As I posted a couple of years back during season 1 . . . GK's of this would be VERY well received (and Uel Winner - MCTV's "animation" arteest would do a great job!) https://www.instagram.com/uelwinner/
