Babylon 5 reboot in the works at CW

#1 Post by DinoMike »

The CW has contracted with J. Michael Straczynski to create a Babylon 5 reboot series. Straczynski states in his Twitter posts that this will indeed be a reboot, not a continuation of the original storyline, as they've lost too many of the original cast members to make a continuation work.

Yeah - if it was anyone OTHER than Straczynski, I'd have been more than a little dubious about this.

However - it's the "CW" - which does NOT bode well . . . unless you're talking about the 1st season of "Arrow" or (apparently) the 1st season of "Superman & Lois" (which I haven't watched).

I'll certainly be giving this a shot though.

Eh. All seasons of iZombie were good.
I loved the whole 15 seasons of Supernatural (sure 7-9 were pretty rocky, but not horrible)

It's not really the network, it's the show runners. So, with JMS in charge I have some hope.

With Straczynski at the helm it has a better shot as a reboot so long as you go into with that frame of mind. Reboots usually change things up.

Here's an idea.

How about instead that they go back and either COMPLETE the incomplete Crusade series, or just reboot it!
(I was so annoyed that they never finished it, instead stopping mid-stream after only 6 or so episodes).

(Just a thought here). :?

I'd back a reboot of Crusade. Try again and do it correctly this time. Because, for me, the first attempt stunk on ice. Legend of the Rangers was even worse, except for G'Kar's scenes.

JMS has done some spectacular work, but he's also blown it a few times. However, what went wrong with Crusade was apparently more about interference from TNT than it was a bad effort on the part of the creators, cast and crew.

As for the B5 reboot ... I'll root for it, I have hope for it, but I won't check it out until I hear again and again that it matches or exceeds the original. Because I'd argue the original -- which started off a bit weakly and should have skipped all but two episodes of season 5 -- was the best sci-fi series ever for 3.5 seasons.

I am not expecting it to exceed the original, or even match it for that matter.
I'll be happy if it comes in a close 2nd though.
The odds of them being able to find such great actors for each character throughout the cast like the original did is a real stretch.

The cast was terrific. Andreas Katsulas in particular ... man, he was one of a kind.
