Top Gun: Maverick

#1 Post by Buc Wheat »

Son brought up his blu ray disc and finally got to watch it yesterday.

Loved it... (hey, it's Naval Aviators, man!)

Laughed when watching the extras and Tom sez: "i'm not doing a sequel
unless the script kicks ass!" and I thought, did someone take and put
'Top Gun:Maverick' over an old Swars:A New Hope script?! lol

but again, ya can't hear "Danger Zone" w/out getting a lump in your throat!

I loved it too. Got to see it in the theater which was really cool.

I watched the original once, and although I thought it was OK, I've never re-visited it even after all these years.

The sequel must be good given the money it earned along with the reviews it got, but I just have no interest in watching it Image

I think I'm just more of a "Sci-Fi & Monsters" guy.

Saw it flying back to the States in October. Best action movie I've seen in who-knows-how-long. Patriotic, a little corny, spectacular, muscularly masculine. I have never really liked Cruise for a whole lot of reasons, but he was absolutely "pitch perfect" in this one, and his acting was A+ (which is not always the case in his flicks). Totally believable. He is also in un-freaking-believable shape for his age - he looks 30-something instead of pushing 60.

But you know what? That IS actually military-accurate. If you've been around a lot of military pilots (as I have, having once been a USAF officer), you notice that, on average, they really are genetically superior specimens - its not an accident, because you have to be physically damn-near perfect to qualify to be a top gun pilot in the first place.

See - there you go - you may have summarised quite nicely why I'm not interested - it's likely because I can't identify with the characters :)

If it included an ugly alien looking type that people crossed the street to avoid (only in my 20's - I'm adorable now! ) then I'd probably have watched it (I suppose that also explains why I'm into "creature features" :-k )

LOL . . . nah - he's too good looking :)

Then again, the Wife (for a while now) has been saying I'm the spitting image of Bruce Willis . . . without the money or the muscles.
