Things are DEAD round these here parts - there's like NO-ONE coming round worth seeing!

It's like they've dug up that old sign we buried (the one saying "Dear bands - do not cross the border - here be Monsters !!!!") :?

I wouldn't mind so much - but I've got $175 CAD in Ticketmaster gift cards burning a hole in my pocket! #-o

There are actually a lot of bands playing Canada. Sadly, not on your side of it apparently. :(

Not sure how far you want to travel, but Papa Roach is playing in Prince George next month.

Seems like just about every band is coming to the St. Louis area this summer - makes it tough to decide which ones to see. Plus price of tickets helps decide my choices too.

Well. Just got back from Bon Jovi a little bit ago.
Best I can say, it was an ok night for me.
The wife had fun though, so that is all that matters.

First, now I know how casual Iron Maiden fans feel.
I would be classified as a casual Bon Jovi fan. I know his material from the 80's. Not so much anything from the umpteen records since then. Guess what most of the setlist was. Yeah.
Songs from the new album, and stuff from all those other albums. (which is what I love about Maiden concerts)
Of the first 16-17 songs, 2 were classics and one was the new single that's been getting played on the radio. A few of the others, I kinda knew from hearing them on the radio when their album was new (years ago). The rest I had never heard before. 2 of them I did like though.
After that, then it was all the old hits to close out the show. Which rocked pretty good.

As far as sound and performance - that was great. I didn't know the songs, but could tell they were done well, and the sound was great. Just didn't care for what I was hearing.

The fact that I detest the venue didn't help my enjoyment either.
It was at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. Downtown Cleveland
We had upper level seats which are practically straight up and down. Seriously, the back of the seat in front of me came up to maybe mid-calf. I was tripping over cup holders trying to get to our seats. Got hassled going through the metal detectors on the way in because of my chain wallet. (thankfully, they were nice and let me slide as long as I kept the chain in my pocket. Probably because the wallet is older than the security guy that was dealing with me.)
Seriously though. Issues with a chain wallet at a rock concert? I miss the days when half the people at a show were wearing spike studded leather. And no one batted an eye at it!

One plus for our seats, is we got a great view of the light show.
Sadly though, not much view of anything else, as there weren't any video screens.

Thankfully, there aren't many shows like this that the wife just has to go to.
I'll stick to the outdoor sheds, and the smaller venues where you can still have fun.
As opposed to these huge corporate indoor numbers where they suck all the life out of everything.

Yeah - I THINK I've seen them 4 times, opening for KISS once back in the UK, then on the "Slippery When Wet" tour, and a couple times at Donington (1986 & 1987).

Won't ever be seeing them again

Yeah.
I saw him back-in-the-day opening for Ratt :D
Was pretty good, I was 7th row on the floor.
I remember thinking he was full of @#it though. He gave this speech about how much he loved Erie Pa.
How he spent time there as a kid, etc.
Thought it was just part of his spiel to get the crowd wound up.

Later, I found out it was true. Turns out his grandmother lived in Erie, and was the reason he brought the HUGE Slippery When Wet tour to Erie. They were selling out arenas and he came to little old Erie and played an outdoor show at a ball field which was the biggest venue in the area.
As much as I was tired of hearing him on the radio by that point, I thought it was kinda cool that he made the effort to bring a huge show to town.

He did do something similar at this show too.
Talking to the crowd about back in the day when they were starting out, and sitting down with the local concert promoter and local radio guy. Even did a really good impression of Kid Leo.

Supposedly a pretty decent guy - as ALSO evidenced when the promoter for a gig he was going to do in Stanley Park Vancouver pulled out and the gig got cancelled.

He relocated to Rogers Arena (huge place) and covered the costs himself - even (if I remember right) including a free burger & beverage for everyone.

Should be a good show - it is KSHE 95's 50 Birthday Party. The radio station is the longest running rock format in the country. It started out in 1967 and has never changed the music format. Lot of different music type events going on all year celebrating it.

Not too shabby Steve.

Me, well, I have . . .
  • • June - Bugger all (they're rumoured to be good)
    • July - No-one in particular (little known, but supposedly entertaining live)
    • August - Diddly-squat (I was never into punk bands - but I need the exercise)
    • September - For God's Sake! (they VERY rarely tour these days - so I'm jumping at the opportunity)
Pretty (un)-awesome really.

Canada - a 3rd-world country for concerts (unless your into kiddie-music).
