Malcolm Young (AC/DC) passes aged 64

#1 Post by Heavy Metal Spike »

.

Another sad bit of news today.

Malcolm Young, Brother of Angus, and co-writer of the vast majority of AC/DC's material, passed away today after a long battle with dementia.

His pain and suffering are over, and there are millions upon millions of fans around the world that will wish his family well, and will treasure the music he made for us.

The dude was a genius who has given us so many rock staples over the span of 40+ years.

AC/DC are one of those rare bands that reaches out across genres and fashion to be appreciated by everyone.

His legacy and his music will ALWAYS live on.

RIP Malc.

AC/DC has issued the following statement:
    • "Today it is with deep heartfelt sadness that AC/DC has to announce the passing of Malcolm Young.
      • Malcolm, along with Angus, was the founder and creator of AC/DC.
With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band.
As a guitarist, songwriter and visionary he was a perfectionist and a unique man.
He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted.

He took great pride in all that he endeavored. His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed.
      • As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special.
He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever.

        Malcolm, job well done."

Yeah, just saw this. Very sad. My friend Shannon is pretty tore up. Her old man is in the tribute band Hell's Bells.......... :(
Jeff doesn't follow directions.
Jeff doesn't pay attention.
Jeff doesn't use time wisely,
Jeff doesn't play well with others......

I heard about this on the radio in the car today. :(

I was listening to a station out of London and like every 3rd song was AC/DC, I was wondering what was going on. Then I caught one of their pre-song comments about remembering Malcom Young.

Sad news - 64 is way too young especially having dementia!! I always liked them and you are right about crossing generations. My Grandson is 15 and he likes them - was just telling me a buddy of his plays guitar and one of the songs he mentioned he plays is "Hells Bells".
At least Malcolm will live forever in song.

Brian Johnson posted the following at his official website:
    • "For 32 years we stood side by side on stage...
      • I am saddened by the passing of my friend Malcolm Young, I can’t believe he’s gone. We had such great times on the road.
I was always aware that he was a genius on guitar, his riffs have become legend, as has he.
I send out my love and sympathy to his wife Linda, his children Kara and Ross, and Angus, who will all be devastated…. as we all are.
He has left a legacy that I don’t think many can match. He never liked the celebrity side of fame, he was too humble for that.
He was the man who created AC/DC because he said “there was no rock 'n' roll” out there.
I am proud to have known him and call him a friend, and I’m going to miss him so much.

                • I salute you, Malcolm Young."
