.So . . . I've been following this wee fella and his collaborators for a couple of years now, and hesitated to post links to some of the amazing, thought-provoking (and provocative) songs he has made during (and before) I first encountered him, because his opinions could be considered subtly (and less than subtly) political.
I'm on record that I HATE rap music - the genre seems to (possibly due to what I have heard/seen rather than not seen) promote sexism, violence, drugs, money and an anti-police attitude (etc.) that I find objectionable, along with a general vibe that I am uncomfortable with despite my usual anti-establishment mindset.
But
Tom MacDonald does NOT fall into the "cookie cutter" realms of rap, and touches my soul . . . and his intelligence, his determination, his sincerity, his HONESTY, his bravery, his talent . . . combined with his sense-of-humour . . . just won me over.
His latest "single" release (linked below) is unique for him . . . it's a pop song, and is about his relationship with his girlfriend. For anybody that has EVER been in love with someone SO much that it hurts . . .
it will make you cry.
The dude is a genius with words AND music - and he does it all without a record company . . just with family & friends. He and Lemmy would have got on, and I can think of no higher compliment.
