Lzzy's voice with this new sound just works, but if it was another artist - I'm not so sure. I think I was most certainly biased given my usual dislike for "poppy" stuff.

If I would have heard Mine or Wannabe on the radio and not known who did them, I would have still enjoyed it and would have had to find it on the computer to listen to more.
I hear 'pop' stuff all the time on the radio at work that I then check out at home.
I don't care about genre, I just like what I like and don't really put a label on it.

Here's one that I heard in the car today.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bARWyC-m_QU

It's like the 5th time I've heard it in the last couple weeks.
Not sure why the sudden popularity again, but as a Maiden fan, I can't help but feel a little shot of adrenaline every time I hear it start.

K - we entered 2023 with song that hails (pun TOTALLY intended) from 2012 . . . Halestorm's "I Miss the Misery"

Can't say I'll REALLY miss a lot of 2020/2021/2022 (aside from the happy memories with various folks) . . . but 2023 HAS to be better for all of us (he says naively :) )

So my first post of the year acknowledges appreciation to the best female vocalist (and her band) EVER . . . from (arguably) the best (overall) album they have released to date . . .

While I love the song, I really don't miss the misery.
I'd rather go back, just as far and dedicate this to all of us hanging out here

Hey Ian, if you want a fun way to spend 40 minutes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVP25CPi934

Elizabeth and Julia together fangirling over Rainbow's Stargazer.
These two are amazing together, and I can't wait to see what other collaborations they shot while Julia was visiting.

So . . . I've been following this wee fella and his collaborators for a couple of years now, and hesitated to post links to some of the amazing, thought-provoking (and provocative) songs he has made during (and before) I first encountered him, because his opinions could be considered subtly (and less than subtly) political.

I'm on record that I HATE rap music - the genre seems to (possibly due to what I have heard/seen rather than not seen) promote sexism, violence, drugs, money and an anti-police attitude (etc.) that I find objectionable, along with a general vibe that I am uncomfortable with despite my usual anti-establishment mindset.

But Tom MacDonald does NOT fall into the "cookie cutter" realms of rap, and touches my soul . . . and his intelligence, his determination, his sincerity, his HONESTY, his bravery, his talent . . . combined with his sense-of-humour . . . just won me over.

His latest "single" release (linked below) is unique for him . . . it's a pop song, and is about his relationship with his girlfriend. For anybody that has EVER been in love with someone SO much that it hurts . . . it will make you cry.

The dude is a genius with words AND music - and he does it all without a record company . . just with family & friends. He and Lemmy would have got on, and I can think of no higher compliment.

The song that started it all for me.
  • But live
    • Somewhere
      • (* I don't know where *) EDIT - it was Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
        • From the upcoming REVISED version of their album.

This band makes fun funnier, and cool cooler.

Genius.
    • Power.
        • Emotion.

A 17-year-old song (2006), a 2-year-old link (2020), THIS video newly discovered courtesy of a good friend (2023) . . .

In a world where overconfidence & arrogance makes people (1) Think they have all the answers, and (2) Think THEY are right, DESPITE all evidence to the contrary - Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister succinctly sums up a major source of hypocrisy . . .

And the sun refused to shine
Then may the shackles be undone
May all the old words cease to rhyme
If the sky turned into stone
It will matter not at all
For there is no Heaven in the sky
Hell does not wait for our downfall

Let the voice of reason chime
Let the pious vanish for all time
God's face is hidden, all unseen
You can't ask Him what it all means

He was never on your side

God was never on your side

            See ten thousand ministries
            See the holy, righteous dogs
They claim to heal, but all they do is steal
Abuse your faith, cheat, and rob
If God is wise, why is He still
When these false prophets call Him friend?
Why is He silent? Is He blind?
Are we abandoned in the end?

Let the sword of reason shine
Let us be free of prayer and shrine
God's face is hidden, turned away
He never has a word to say

He was never on your side
God was never on your side
Let right or wrong alone decide
God was never on your side
            No, no, no

He was never on your side
God was never on your side
            Never, never, never, never

I'd heard a few tracks by "Ghost" over the years, but most of their earlier stuff wasn't really to my taste. Then they released "Impera" last year (March 2022) and I was hooked - BIG TIME !!! Blood-red vinyl was promptly ordered & delivered ( http://theclubhouse1.net/phpBB3/viewtop ... 6#p1445816 ).

After this, I carried out a more serious examination of their back-catalogue, and while almost everything prior to 2018 is still not for me (excepting "Cirice" & "Square Hammer"), I discovered the previous album "Prequelle" (from June 2018) is just as good as "Impera", so the 2 albums have been playing on repeat, back-to-back for many months now.

I also grew to appreciate the 2 tracks on their 2019 "Seven Inches" EP (from which, "Mary on a Cross" has since gone viral).

I'd been having trouble finding a reliable seller for the vinyl version of "Prequelle" I wanted (gold/ash - limited to 2500 copies), but finally tracked a copy down. It arrived last Monday. Perfect condition Image Image Image

EASILY the most expensive piece of music I have ever bought, but my Son (bless!) chipped-in as part of my Christmas present (that makes it a bit more special too).

Then the 1st part of my Maiden stamp order turned up on Thursday. Also perfect condition :bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

It was a good week :D

So - well-worth a share of one of the tracks from "Prequelle" - "Rats" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_ijc7A ... IZ&index=1 (* major chills from the solo at 2:30 - EVERY time *)

I almost saw Ghost live. But that was the doomed Iron Maiden show in Toronto that ended up not happening for me.

Sat 15th July 2017 - before they developed into the quality band they are now (so you didn't miss anything in that regard). I forget why you didn't make it to that gig?

We did Sun 10th April 2016 (1st part of that "Book of Souls" North American tour) - in the echo chamber / cattle shed that is Rogers Arena, Vancouver.

I know Rats was the single playing all over the radio at that time.
Combination of factors played into me not going. Short on cash. The wife not going along with me. And I found out there wasn't a hotel room to be found in the area due to a race happening right outside the venue, as well as Metallica/A7X playing the ball field down the street the next day.

Oooo!
Heard this on the radio on the way to work this morning.

Daughtry - Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) ft. Lzzy Hale
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzEYQLANWgo

This was a bit of a roller coaster for me. When I heard there was a Journey cover, I was like - meh.
Then they said Lzzy and I was like 8)
Then it started playing, and I was like - meh
The beginning really didn't impress me. But man, the longer the song went, the more I got into it.
By the end, Lzzy was letting it rip, and I was loving it.

Absolutely amazing - best link (for me) you've thrown up here in ages - I'm gobsmacked.

Never heard of the band (will be going digging later tonight though), as that male vocalist is as near-perfect a match for Lzzy as I've ever heard - and I do like me some power metal.

Love every damn thing about this - just SOOOOOOOOOO good !!!!!!!!! Image

You are welcome.
I was very pleasantly surprised to hear this on the radio.
I want a real video to go with it now.

I want to see Lzzy belting out these lyrics.
