Re: RIP Lemmy
I just saw the news and was heading here to post it.
Man, this is just such a bummer.

Re: RIP Lemmy
WTH - 2 days after diagnosis ?!?!?!
As was posted on the official website - "I (We) cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren't words."
I'm desperately hoping this is some sort of sick joke - but just checked the BBC news website - and it's there too - http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-35192060
The man was (is) one of my all-time heroes - just stunned right now . . .

A very strange comparison, but the last time I was this shocked about a celebrity death was after Princess Di's car crash. This band has been a part of my life for nearly 40 years - just feels - weird.
Unsurprisingly – tributes are pouring in from all over the place.

I look at it this way. At least he went quick.Heavy Metal Spike wrote:WTH - 2 days after diagnosis ?!?!?!
He didn't suffer, and he didn't have time to deteriorate.
Shocking, yes. But merciful too.

Re: RIP Lemmy
Sadly, I only had the chance to see them live once.
Back in '03 with Maiden and Dio (odd how all 3 singers on that tour ended up with cancer)
We were in the 3rd row, and sadly there were lots of empty seats for Motorhead who opened the show.
But that didn't seem to matter. They cranked it up to 11 and rocked our faces off for 40 minutes.

Re: RIP Lemmy
I knew Dee Snider would bring the story of how Lemmy gave Sister up-front street cred in the UK (July 24 1982). I remember this from the music press (Kerrang & Sounds) at the time.
It's impossible to list the bands that Lemmy & co. helped and influenced. So MANY happy memories of that time in the late 70's and early 80's.
Like I said - my hero.

Re: RIP Lemmy
If you are part of the worldwide rock family, and had even an ounce of respect for what this man did for our community - I defy you not to tear-up when reading these.
Both are well worth reading from end-to-end. Trust me
A doctor visited early Monday. Ozzy Osbourne would be coming by that day or the next. Lemmy spent hours on the video-game console, as Rainbow owner Mikael Maglieri paid a visit. Then Lemmy nodded off and never woke up again. "Mikael called to say, 'My God, he just died right in front of me,'" Singerman says.

You know what? There goes a hero for me. He was my hero. He was #$#$#$# great, a good friend. I'm missing him already. I'll never forget him. I don't think a lot of people will forget Lemmy. He'll be so missed in my camp. He was a good guy, a good man, a good friend of mine. He was just a #$#$#$# great dude, man. Not enough time for him. God bless you, Lemmy. I'm so honored to have you a part of my life.

- In recent weeks, Lemmy began to slow down. "He did no more soundchecks. He wouldn't do interviews. He couldn't do anything," says Todd Singerman, who managed the band for 24 years. But Lemmy performed as scheduled. "To really think of what energy and the balls that took to still play shows for the fans, to do the last #$#$#$# show two weeks ago, and then drop. That's like a Rocky story to me. This is courage at his best. He was dying. He didn't know it, but his body must have felt it. He had nothing left."

- To look at Lemmy, you'd never think he was as educated as he was. People look at the music we do and the way we look, and they go, "Oh, this bunch is a bunch of yobbos. They don't know what they're doing. They're bad people." But it's not true. Lemmy looks like an old biker, but he was so well read. He was very up on a lot of things. He was a very clever guy.

Re: RIP Lemmy
Life (and death) can be strange bedfellows - there are folks that live close enough to this that won't feel the need to attend, and there are others (like those of us that have posted) that wish they could attend, but can't - for a variety of reasons.
In MY opinion - this should be a MASSIVE event - local streets shut down - the works.
But regardless, the man's legacy will be with us, and with future generations - forever.

- The Rainbow Bar and Grill on Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip was known as Lemmy Kilmister‘s preferred hangout. Today (Jan. 2), the bar announced that, fittingly, it will be the site of a memorial service for the departed Motorhead frontman in one week.
“Join us Saturday, January 9th as we say goodbye a dear friend and loved one,” the club wrote on its Facebook page. “We will open our doors at 2PM.” This was accompanied by a picture of him in front of a video game, over which the words “Memorial services to be held at the Rainbow Bar and Grill. 2PM till 2AM Saturday, January 9th. Come celebrate the life of Lemmy Kilmister. Legends never die” are superimposed.
