Also, saw this interview with Bruce.

Seems the pandemic was good timing for him to get some repairs done.

I'm getting the media book version from Amazon.
$60 USD I take it? . . . that's about $5,000 Canadian (oh - sorry - that was last weeks exchange rate - it's now about $80 Canadian).

I don't think the Walmart folks need any more of my money though, and if they do - tough :)

Thanks for the link - good read.

Bruce is taking the metallic (but not the gender) part of his history a little too seriously it seems.

Loved this - "With Adrian you really don't have to bother writing [the] guitar part, because he's quite good at that"

Yeah, I love Bruce interviews because he is so casual and understated about things like that.

Oh, and the only reason I knew Walmart had that version is I used the official link to preorder, and it listed different vendors and noted which ones had exclusives. So I was curious what they had.
I almost got the Target exclusive, but it just has a special cover over the CD.

Ah-ha - (exclamation of acknowledgement - not a call of praise for the 80's Norwegian band) - #3 in a series of ?

Again with the enthusiasm - I could listen to that guy speak for hours. I hear he can sing too.

Ta muchly again.

Another great, easy-going fella.

"Days Of Future Past", "Darkest Hour" & the title track sound interesting.

Less than 2 days left to go (UK local time) :hot: :hot:

Had a listen to the entire album end-to-end.

Parts are so beautiful & emotive, and I'm not ashamed to admit I had tears of joy streaming down my face at times.

Quick summary - love it all except tracks 8 & 9 (maybe they will grow on me). I was concerned about the last track too but it won me over by the end (it's easily the best of the last 3 but it's a bit too much with the choppy/changy in places). Track 6 is also a bit iffy in places.

Basically - Adrian & Bruce didn't drop the ball ONCE - their stuff is PERFECTION, and I think Steve was the weak link on this album. It's still EASILY the best thing they've done since 2000's "Brave New World". I was not disappointed.

I made notes as I listened, and will put my "first impressions" up once I have a sec.

I am still absorbing it.
But right now I can't decide if it is better or worse than TBOS, which is the 3rd best release of this century.
BNW
DOD
TBOS
AMOLAD
FF

I do agree Harris is the weak link Lots of repetitive, long, progy stuff.
I mean, it sounds beautiful, but there is so much samey-same that it just gets tiresome.
I think the other weak link is Shirley. His production always sounds the same. He never pushes them, and just lets them do what they want. And with Steve, that means a lot of filler.

Agreed.

He does great work with Black Country Communion and with Joe Bonamassa's solo stuff, but him and Steve need to part ways now.

Listening through for a 2nd time reinforced my initial impressions, but also let me appreciate a couple of the tracks better.

Adrian & Bruce are definitely the heroes here – along with Janick (and of course Nicko!) Steve's bass work is great, but his writing does sometimes let the side down.

Overall - what an f'in GREAT album !!!! – as I said – the best thing since 2000’s “Brave New World”.

How can any band with an already unbeatable history produce material that turns it up a notch after SO many years ?!?!?

    • • Tracks 1, 3, 5 & 7 for the win.
      • Tracks 2 & 4 get a silver.
      • Tracks 6 & 10 (and 9 because of the latter half) get a bronze.
      • Track 8 can go bye-byes.

Tears of joy – thank you SO much Maiden – for all the history, for all the happy memories, and now for this!

Well worth the wait.

          • Metal IS life !!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometime this weekend, I will go a bit more in depth about my feelings.
I can't remember the last time the first single was my favorite on an album.
Usually with Maiden, I find their singles to be the weakest, but I hear nothing on this album to top Writing on the Wall.

Oh, and this says a lot about why Shirley is their guy.
https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/bruce ... n-shirley/
Basically, they stick with him because he doesn't make them do anything they don't want to do.
They are old, and set in their ways, and just want to do what they want to do.
Which, they've earned that right. But at the same time, no one is pushing them to try different things and innovate at all. Which is why we get so much material that just sound the same. Great bits all over the place, but very little that stands out and really grabs your attention.
Which has been my complaint with everything since DOD.

LOL - only just realised (courtesy of BW&BK) that this was released on the 37 year anniversary of the release of "Powerslave" (3rd September 1984).

Where do the years go!

Still enjoying the album. Track 7 - "Darkest Hour" is just friggin' EPIC :jam: :jam: :jam:

Found this fan-art version of the album cover last week, and figured it was time to share it here.

I LOVE the actual album cover but think this is a HUGE improvement!

Another interview with Bruce - bit more info on the animated video + lots of other interesting stuff.

The interviewer is a bit annoying, but it's well-worth listening too.

I'd not seen ALL the interior artwork prior to this, but NOW I have :D

Shame that they chose the worst track on the album as the background music, and I'm disappointed with the interior foldout art.

However - the semi-transparent red on the version I bought is MUCH more vivid than I'd expected (yay!) - shame I may never open mine - assuming I can resist the temptation

I understand your disappointment with the centerfold. Would have been so much better if Riggs would have done it.
I really miss his style. Wish he and the band wouldn't have had that falling out.

Hopefully, by this weekend I will be able to rate the songs. I just got my CDs today, and plan on giving the real audio a few listens and see how I feel (compared to the youtube audio)
But as of right now, I am leaning towards Hell on Earth as my 3rd favorite.
