My new printer has me scared! :)

#1 Post by Buc Wheat »

Just bought a new printer...HP DeskJet 2755e. It comes with a subscription
service that monitors your ink levels and will ship you new ink cartridges when
the levels get to a certain height.

About a month later, I get an email telling me that I have to keep the printer
on so the WIFI connection can monitor my levels, and my suspicious mind throws
up that nagging warning flag.

Suddenly I'm thinking, "That would make a cool book!" Do what AC Clarke did
w/ 2001:A Space Odyssey... take the letters before IBM to make up HAL, one
takes the next letters and makes up the IQ DeskJet 2755e!! A printer that
monitors your home/office with a hidden mic and camera that watches over
you...24.hours.a.day!!!

Freaked me out so much, I'm thinking of throwing a blanket over the whole
damn thing, now!!

I don't like any tech devices that are hooked up to "somewhere else". I order my ink cartridges myself, thank you very much. Also like all my software to operate on my laptop self-sufficiently (alas, that is not possible any more with most sotware programs that require going "up to the cloud" to do their business) ...

... when I saw the thread title I assumed it was about a resin 3D printer .... should have known you were a "stone age oldtimer" like myself ... there's less than zero chance I will ever dabble in such things ... life is getting WAAYYY too complicated ! :rolf:

Hell no. I've got a workbench w/ a Kong 1/2 finished since 2000-Freaking-7!!!! Last thing I
need is a 3D printer! Facebook is scary enuff at how many new STL files I run across
that I'd LOVE TO OWN!!

(although Robb's Rollerball Jonathan kit is a gotta have and will kick start my lazy ass
to build when it becomes available!)
