My wife has a collection of Apatosaurus figures, Schleich and Safari mostly. From what I have read online: http://dinotoyblog.com/2010/05/06/apato ... afari-ltd/ (and elsewhere) the Safari LTD 2010 figure is one of the most accurate,. But is the pose right? The head seems to be raised a little high to me. I'm no expert though.
But I am about to start sculpting an Apatosaurus for my wife. With her collection I have plenty of 3D information or disinformation. Who knows? But of these images which image is nearer what Apatosaurus might have looked like?
I am no David Krentz but this is what I think I am shooting for:
Any thoughts?

Re: Attempting 24 scale Apatosaurus
I'm also no Apatosaur expert, but it looks like the big differences is the arch of the back and the neck.
Looks wise I like the Krentz one (bottom).
But whatever design you choose, I'm looking fwd to seeing more of your work.

Leelan,
here's couple of resources that might be of service:
SVPOW
http://svpow.com/?s=apatosaurus
Scott Hartman
http://www.skeletaldrawing.com/sauropod ... us-louisae
http://skeletaldrawing.blogspot.com/201 ... -huge.html
There are plenty of articles in SVPOW discussing sauropod neck positions.

Re: Attempting 24 scale Apatosaurus
Thank you!
The forum didn't tell me that anyone responded.
I will check out those sources and tweak. The top picture I am told was the inspiration for the Sideshow statue. I guess they left off the spines so that the statue would more easily be mass produced.
To tell the truth the idea of sculpting something that big is a bit daunting. I almost think it might be easier to save up the $400 for the Sideshow statue even though the Apatosaurus has a silly striped paint job now. I prefer the old paint job.
I'm starting a collection of objects in 24th scale. I have the Pegasus Triceratops kit, the family car and a set of people, a rhino, an American bison and moose. All I need now is an African elephant. It's really convenient that 1/24th is G scale. There are lots of everyday items in that scale for train enthusiasts.
I tinkered this up as I was putting off getting started:

I think I will start the skull this weekend. Fingers crossed!
