The Terror Bird

#1 Post by kevtk135 »

Wow, can't remember the last time I did a prehistoric subject. This time I worked on The Terror Bird. I've had it so long I actually forgot who sculpted it but it was casted by Gillman Prod.
It took no time at all to clear the mini seam line from the bird (using some Aves to fill in) and then I got him primed and base coated

While the bird was drying I turned to the base. I really didn't like the moulded in grass, so I dremeled all that out.

I took weeds from the yard and added them instead -

Going back to the bird I copied an image I saw on the Net -

Some washes, pigments and highlighting, and drilling two holes from the bottom of the base thru the feet, he's screwed in to the base, and I'm calling this done.
Oh, I also added some green wash to the grass, as the scene looked a little too brown. Thanks for looking.

The tall grasses really helps to sell it. Very nice display.

Thanks. In many cases the molded in grass or shrubs just don't do it for me.

Oh, btw, I just noticed you couldn't recall the sculptor...

That would be ... Me. :)

Thanks for that, Mark! :) When I get a kit I gotta start remembering to write the who what and where on the box, in case I don't get to build it right away.

Nice job on a very impressive kit, Kev.
I really like this sculpt and you are so right - vinyl plants mostly do not look right. Your use of natural materials brings a real boost to this.
Well done, pal.

Hi Spike! Long time, no talk. ;) Glad you are still peeking in.
Thanks for the kind words.
