A Blast from the Past

#1 Post by kevtk135 »

A week or so ago I remembered that I had a box of resin kits in the storage space in the attic. Remembering that summer heat isn't good for them, I decided to pull out the box. Turns out there was 3 boxes of kits in there. In one swipe I added to my stash by 1/3! I didn't remember most of what was in there.

One was the OOP Saurosuchus v. Dinodontodaurus from Chris Lynch and Ravenstar Studio. I wa recently thinking about this kit, wondering where it had been. So when I saw the box it went right to the head of the line on the work bench. A few WIP pics are on my page.
Thanks for looking.

You are a kit building machine! That's a really nice kit too. Great pain job Kev.
It's always a thrill to rediscover kits, huh?

Nice work on a very interesting looking kit, Kev.
Now I´m looking forward to seeing what more you´ve had stashed away.

Thanks guys.
Carl: hehe thanks. I have 3 kits on the hobby table at a time, just to keep things moving. So as 1 goes together a little faster, I concentrate on that one to get it done. So others are not far behind.

Sal: Thanks. When my LHS was going out of business, everything was on sale. So I bought a ton of Vallejo Model Color Paint- just because. So every once in a while I pick out colors that I haven't used before. The predator has two of those colors. ;) The top color is Hull Red. Huh? I don't build ships. ;) Just got it because it has a little brown in it.

Thanks Spike. Long time no talk. This vignette was a sort of surprise in that the producer's online catalog was mostly the small scale Star Trek GKs. I think he had one other dinosaur kit, and a figure. He's since revamped his site and those kits aren't there anymore. I did send him a pic of this at his request - I had to write him to see if he remembered the name of the dinos - so maybe he'll bring them back one day.

Anyway I was shocked at the number of kits I bought, and stored away. Most of them are Star Wars ships. I had (and still have it in my sig) that "If it's Star Wars, I'm in". Well I certainly practiced what I preached. haha Except for a few boxes in the foreground, what is climbing up the wall is what I pulled out of the crawl space -

LMAO, thanks guys.
I'll say it goes back to my childhood. ;) But I'm glad I'm only a hoarder in model kits, and not garbage. LOL

Oh I'm definitely not alone. Over at SSM there was a thread where it was asked to "Show Your Stash" and there were guys that looked like they had a hobby shop in their cellars. ;)

Thanks. :D

Kevin, I received your submission to the Gallery this morning, but deleted them, because I jumped the gun and added them from this forum earlier. Just figured you would add them later, anyway, they are posted in the Dinosaur gallery. Thanks !

Awesome kit - never saw it before. My only suggestion for this kit: BLOOD. Lots of BLOOD.

Oh - and another thing - this has bugged me since 2005 - who is the dude in your avatar, and what movie is it from?

Thanks!

It's a shame the kit wasn't more popular. I guess it's from a site that mostly did garage kit sci-fi star ships.
I was debating the blood thing, still not sure what I want to do, but there's always time to add some later. :)

The avatar is "Crewman 6" or "Guy", from Galaxy Quest. The face is when the Tony Shaloub character impresses his alien girlfriend, and as they are kissing she starts turning back to her squid form. As they leave the frame, making out, the camera moves to Guy, and in shock of what he's seeing says "Oh that's not right!"
I took the screen grab right at that point. :)

Wow, love the "dynamic" side of this diorama, which tells a "story "...
Agree about the blood (but not too...)

I like the patterning on the predator. Any blood is good, but less is more.

Not from a film; Saturday Night Live, recurring character the Continental. He is immune to mace he has been sprayed so often.
