Some figures from the 2016 Coulmbia IPMS Nats

#1 Post by kevtk135 »

Back from Columbia and the show was very good. Quite a few sci-fi and fantasy figures this year and a hard job for the judges.
There was just so many and the light not great that I couldn't get them all. But here's a taste of what was there - -

You're welcome guys. While it's no WF, there's more sci-fi, fantasy and horror models showing up every year.

IIRC, that one won an award for Kibashing/Scratchbuilding.

I liked the Star Wars "Barbi-Q" with the Storm Trooper. You can't see the title plate on this photo, but it said "Barbi-Q at Uncle Owen's" or something like that. Maybe it was Barbi-Q at Lars... but it was funny.

It's a beauty alright, Jim. Gorgeous build too.

Thanks for sharing these amazing photos. There're loads of superb builds so I can see why the judging was difficult.

It's a huge piece, stands nearly 2 feet tall; I've got one in the works right now.

Thanks so much for the info. Couldn't find it on their site, but shot him a PM. Hope it's still available.

Hey, thanks for posting these, Kev -

That 54mm German barbarian figure placed SECOND in it's category -

AND WON BEST FIGURE -

Which ENRAGED ME - there were at least 5 pieces that were vastly superior to this one that were far more deserving of the award, and ONE of them was the figure that PLACED FIRST IN THAT CATEGORY!!!

There were some other best-ofs that made no damn sense to me, and I now have a less-than-favorable opinion of the IPMS judging on the national level. But you know, it's a damn model show, and noone outside of the hobby really cares....

Yeah, someone goofed. For best of any category they only look at the firsts in the category breakdowns. So a judging team wasn't paying attention.
I was also surprised at the best of category winner. While the Viking (or whoever) was certainly good, there were far better figures in the bunch IMHO. But until robots take over judging  mistakes will happen. Sux when your models are caught up in it tho...

I just passed this on to the board as is wrong. We had a new figure had judge and maybe she needs to go before his happens again. The figure that beat it in its category is better for that matter.
