Dark Horse King Kong re-paint, with figures

#1 Post by Tim Casey »

This is an old kit of mine that I'm putting up on eBay. It was a bit too dusty and I've gotten a lot better as a painter, so I decided to re-paint the whole thing. I also had four of the original five optional metal figures, and I had an extra "King Kong" Aurora-style nameplate, so I threw that in as well. I think it came out great. I added the foggy glow to the lights using Photoshop.

(note - the footlights are actually the top row of one of my photography lights; they're not part of the kit.)

More pics of too many Kong models can be found here:

Enjoy! And go build a model!

I think having Harryhausen sculpt it gives it some street credibility, but I have to agree - Kong's mom wouldn't recognize him....

Oh! This is the one that Ray himself did! Didn't recognize it! Yeah, that would make it a keeper! Too bad its not unbuilt (then again, probably a lot more collectors out there than modelers). Hope you get a "prince's ransom"!

Actually, I'm just hoping that someone takes it. I usually list them for 99 cents; someone always bids on it that way.

The alternative is to toss it in the trash, because I've run out of room. Now THAT would break my heart!

Thanks again for this thread, Tim. It reminded me of this kit, of the fact that Ray himself sculpted it, and - with my recent foraying into the 1933-Kong model-building genre - I just picked up a MIB copy of this kit on ebay for $80 total. I am lathering up as I contemplate building it up - Ray, Kong, iconic scene and its not-too-big so I can display it just about anywhere in my display areas. :drool2:
