Go to Modelwarships.com where these guys hang out and you'll really see some incredible ship models! Particularly a guy named Kostas Katseas. This guy is a model building maniac.

It's too bad the audio is not in English, but I still got at least one tip out of that: for the surface wakes he's using gel medium go glue down cotton fibers.
I'd really like to see how he pours the resin to make those underwater scenes w/out disturbing the cotton torpedo wakes.
